I hope there are some plans to organize against this. I have less than a month on my lease and am in no position to buy. Guess they expect me to live on the street - I'm not sure what's worse this or the lousy refurb/decorating job by the new owners girlfriend.

I am also a longterm McLean Gardens resident and have to say I'm not surprised by this change to condos. With the property managment change, etc., I figured something like this was going to happen. Does anyone have any idea of how "good" of a deal they are really going to give current tenants who want to buy their place? I spoke with someone in the managment office who said it will depend on how much renovation you want or if you are going to buy it "as is"? Does anyone else know anything?

I have lived here (3800 Rodman) for 13 months, and my lease expired 2 weeks ago. The thought of strangers trapsing through my home is more than unsettling. I too love it here, and am in no position to buy (the time and energy involved in such an endeavor is as much of an issue as coming up with $20-30G for a downpayment), as I am both a full-time student, AND I work full-time. As classes start in just 2 weeks, I am left to do--what else--move AGAIN! I am so sick of moving, and almost feel like I'm in the witness protection program.. but such is life. If anyone else is in a similar time-crunch situation, perhaps looking to rent at the same community/property in the area would give us a little bargaining power (i.e., reduced rent, fees, etc.). I can be reached at debbyjr@comcast.net if there are any interested parties in the aforementioned.
A good friend of mine is an appraiser, and he thinks the townhouse styles (my current unit) will likely go for around 325-350, with the one level units somewhere around 300-310-- as is (without the "renovations" management has mentioned). If you've seen what they mean by renovations, I'd like to give a word of caution: while aesthetically more pleasing than the late 80s motif of older units, the work is shoddy, the materials upgraded appliances just as bad. I have heard the prices will be offered to current tenants at 10% less than what they'll be offered for publicly.
