Not that bad!

I've lived in the Woodner Apartments twice, once in 2001/2002 and now once again. That's a good sign.

Second, you get what you pay for. I wonder whether some of the more angry writers aren't accustomed to city living, living on one's own, etc. If so, you can't expect perfect housing for only $800 a month.

Third, as a young female, both times I've lived here, I've never felt unsafe. Sure, sometimes you see someone drunk, but the building has thousands of tenants - it comes with the territory. And unlike what some other posters think, the security guards seem to respond quickly, and appropriately to security concerns. I've also yet to have any noise problems on my floor.

As for maintenance, I've had minor problems with my oven and window, and a part replacement on my heater. Staff came promptly, and fixed everything well. No complaints and, in contrast to some other posters, they seem to show real devotion to their job.

Finally, although not perfect, I have an adorable studio with hardwood floors, regular bus service literally at my doorstep, a balcony, and a view of Rock Creek Park. Not bad for $820.

There are some downsides to the Woodner. Half of the building still has old windows. The elevators are small, and the freight elevators are on their last legs (but being replaced now). Some of the neighboring blocks off of 16th Street aren't well-lit (not a fault of the Woodner's). And yes, there are roaches - the building is big, old and has a restaurant and mini-market in it. I recommend an apartment on one of the higher floors, and away from the garbage chute. You get to pick your apartment - follow this advice and you should be fine. =)

You are obviously in management. If you are going to try to sneak in positive reviews, at least try not to be so obvious.
