very good but expensive

This is an old building but nice. The apartment rent includes utilites which is good because the windows are poorly insulated and it is drafty in the winter. The radiators make up for it and are more than sufficient. The biggest problem is the hot water and the management is always sending notices of when it will be shut off to be worked on which is annoying. Maintenance problems have been handled within 24 hours. Front Desk staff is very helpful and on first name basis, great for receiving packages. Elevators work well. Street parking is usually not a problem. Most of the neighbors are nice, there are lots of studios so many young professionals live here. Not many young children and I think only cats are allowed. There is a lot of noise from Connecticut Ave., especially fire trucks. Coin operated laundry in basement is expensive. Rent has gone up this year and I don't think it is worth the price because the apartments are relatively small. Our is a converted one bedroom (the other bedroom was a dining room), so the bathroom is in the master bedroom which is inconvenient when having guests. You are definitely paying for the safe area (neighborhood is wonderful) and proximity to the metro but the benefits could win if price is not a concern.
