We've loved it, but weigh the pros and cons depending on what you're looking for

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
I've lived here with my boyfriend for 2 years in a 1 bedroom den, which is MUCH larger than a standard 1 BR.
Pros: We face Tilden and have large windows on 3 sides of the apartment (lots of light, all day long). There are tall trees which flower in the spring right outside the window. Nice landscaping in front of the building. The location is great if you are looking for something in upper NW - 7 min walk to Cleveland Park or Van Ness, lots of restaurants, grocery stores, amenities, right off of Rock Creek park and lovely wooded trails for runners, very safe. Utilities are included in the rent price, and we have TWO walk-in closets, which hold a LOT of stuff. Friendly staff, around the clock. French doors between the den and dining room and hardwood floors. Cats allowed, but with a deposit and monthly fee.
Cons: No dishwasher. Window AC units work well but we don't have one in the central room so sometimes a fan is needed to blow the cool air from one of the other rooms. Windows are really drafty in winter (then again, you're not paying for heat). The building itself is pretty quiet (disclaimer: we are in a corner unit on the top floor so only have two neighbors) but traffic on Connecticut is loud esp. during rush hour. Doors and window frames have been repainted so many times that it has started to crack where it contacts the door jam.
A note about maintenance and management: Past posts (several years old) have noted complaints but we have not had problems. I think there have been major changes in the past few years - they even come around periodically to do inspections for any problems (even minor ones) and get this - THEY CALL YOU - to schedule a time for repairs or even preventative maintenance. I will say that it's pointless to use their online maintenance request system - I don't know how often this is checked - but if you put in a request at the front desk or by phone it is usually taken care of within 24 hrs, if not that day. Keep in mind that this is an older building, which in my opinion is always a trade-off between beautiful old architectural details vs. occasional need for repairs and pipe work which will require them to shut off the water (generally preceded by posted notice).
