Moved due to unlivable conditions....

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004

We had to move due to unlivable conditions. A hole in our ceiling took over five weeks to get fixed while rain leaked into a large trash bucket. Over the span of a few months spring/summer of 2004, windows were replaced, plumbing was replaced, the exterior was washed, outside windows painted, electrical boxes installed, then maintenanced, then painted. This was almost never done without problems, and almost always without any attention to convenience or schedule, and almost never with much advance notice as to exact day/time -- and if there was notice, the workmen almost never showed up then. To top things off, the laundry services were often in disrepair.
I work at home, my husband works nights. There were sometimes workmen there 3-4 times a week, hammering, drilling, messing with the electricity. I lost money, he lost sleep, and the two months notice we had to give before being able to get out were unbelievably difficult. When there weren't workmen in our apartment, they were next to us or directly below us.
Workmen actually showed up THE DAY BEFORE WE WERE MOVING OUT to fix stuff we had complained about after moving in two years prior. They showed up without notice, and when I asked if they could come back a different day after we had gone, they said they were unable to because they had an INSPECTION coming up in a couple of days so the work had to be done right then. Inconvenience and inconsideration to the end. I have never been as happy to leave a place as I was this one.
Most office management was very nice, and there was apparently not much they can do -- repairs are repairs. Did have big problems with attitute of someone named Kwame. Don't think he's still around, though. I wonder -- if the buildings are in that rough of shape if they should have actually been rented out' It was like living in construction zone hell. Maybe by now all is fixed and the next residents will be happy ones. The apartments themselves aren't bad looking, but not worth $2000-plus by any strech.
