This building has some problems

I have to agree with the other reviewers that the rent increase was fairly large ($200 for a one bedroom apartment) and the renewal notice was late. I certainly am not going to pay $1600 for a one bedroom, no matter how big it is, if I can spend comparable amounts in nicer, newer buildings elsewhere in the district. In addition, my apartment has had an apparently untreatable ant problem since I moved in last year. While the exterminator treats each month, the situation never seems to change. Then, of course, there was the rodent droppings I found in a closed drawer in my kitchen one morning. Definitely not one of my foundest memories of living here. Also, in the fall, the building was exterminated for roaches, etc. and there were constantly dead bugs all over the stairwells. If you live near a smoker, your apartment will constantly have a stale smell, especially noticable in the small space of the bathroom, and you may find cigarette butts all over your balcony. The doors to the apartments must be made of the thinnest metal known to man. Any sounds in the hallways will not be stopped by your closed door. And you'll definitely hear noises from your upstairs neighbors because of the hardwood floors. One more thing, you will notice a draft from the windows. The windows are older and definitely do not keep out the cold. Luckily, you don't pay for heat, so you can turn up the thermostat. Not everything is all bad about this building. The metro is 1-2 minutes from the back entrance of the building and, at some point in the spring, the grocery store being renovated will reopen with underground access through the parking lot.
