Oh... where to begin! Van Ness South was once labeled the jewel of the NW DC area, although lately it seems more like faulty towers. Mice- I've seem 8( yes EIGHT!) mice in my apt since Jan, and I'm not alone. Other residents are seeing ants, roaches, and more mice. When I talk to the office they tell me I'm the only person in the building with the problem, except for the fact that at any given time I see tons of residents in the lobby complaining about mice. I CAN'T wait until my lease is up in May to get the heck out of here. Archstone-Smith only cares about leasing apartments, they couldn't give a hoot about you once you move in.

I think you live down the hall from me. Someone on my floor was talking about the 11th mouse they killed in their apartment since the beginning of the year. That's absurd and totally uncalled for.

Hi - It's Jan. 29 and I've had 3 mice within a week, and 10 total since March 2007. Van Ness keeps sayingv they've plugged up the holes where the mice have come but still the problem!

It is true. Van Ness South is infested with mice. I also heard that one floor in the building had bed bugs (the entire floor had to be fumigated)! It is a shame because this place used to be really nice, but in the last 3-4 years, it's all gone downhill. The management is extremely poor. They could care less about the residents; they only want to tow the company line. They actually read off of scripts when they talk to you! They have no clue about customer service and have been rude to a number of residents. The building also needs to be better maintained. The business center sucks... I could go on and on... If you want to live in the Van Ness area, my advice is to try to sublet from someone in the Van Ness North co-op building, which is maintained much better than the rental Van Ness South building.
