Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
I lived here from 2003-2004 and had a corner studio. The apartment was far larger than any other studio you'll find in DC and likely a couple hundred dollars cheaper - with utilities included! It's an old building and a bit dreary, but Victor (rental manager) and Reggie (building upkeep) were great. The tenants in the building, overall, were extremely friendly.
I recommend Walter Reed but with two warnings: 1) The walls are very thin, so if you have a neighbor who's even a loud talker, you'll hear it. 2) Roaches. It's an old building with a garbage shoot and trash room in the building. They do their best at upkeep, but there are still pests. They offer a bi-weekly spraying service, if you can, take advantage of it. I had two cats and no way to get them out of the apartment for spraying so I had to battle it out on my own - in the end the roaches won and I moved out.
