Great building in a great neighborhood

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008
My wife and I lived in this building for about 2 1/2 years. We lived in a studio for one year, and a 1 bedroom for a year and a half. There are a lot of good things to recommend this building on, but the best of them is that the staff and management are excellent. They are very friendly, and very helpful. Many of them live in the building. The doormen seem to know most of the tenants by name. The maintenance staff responds quickly to maintenance requests. Even the pest control contractor who comes by once a month is friendly, and would always take a minute to give our cats a rub under the chin. Tony Hooper is the on-site manager, and he is really a pleasure to work with; he takes good care of both the building and the tenants.
The building is in a good location right where Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, and the U Street corridor meet. Although U St./Cardozo Station is closest, Dupont Circle Station is only a couple blocks farther, so its an easy walk to both red and green lines. The S2 and S4 busses running from Silver Spring to Federal Triangle stop literally just outside the front door. The units are nice, our second apartment (the 1 bedroom) had recently updated cabinets and appliances. Even the older cabinets/appliances in our first apartment were nice enough. The building has a nice roof deck with a beautiful view down 16th St. Likewise, there are lots of windows in the units, and we had a view of both Meridian Hill ("Malcolm X") Park and the Monument from our corner apartment. There is a small but well appointed fitness room that I often had to myself (there are at least 3 gyms of varying degrees of trendiness/poshness within about a block you could join). Neither my wife or I ever felt unsafe in the neighborhood, and especially not in the building.
The building itself is in great condition, and looks very nice. The grounds are well kept. The rooms have nice wood parkay floors. The elevators had some "character", but they are in the process of being renovated, and it looks like they're getting the update they needed. There are laundry rooms on every floor, which I actually prefer to having a machine take up room in my apartment, though the trade-off is that they're coin operated (you'll find yourself collecting quarters every chance you get).
One other nice thing about the building that deserves to be highlighted is the pet policy. We lived there with two cats, and never had any problems. We found the pet fees to be very reasonable compared to other buildings in the area. Judging from the number of pets living in the building, we weren't the only ones to think so.
My wife and I are moving across the country. If we were staying in DC, we would have loved to stay in this building. We were very happy here.
