Serious disregard for tenants and personal vendettas

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
I have lived here for nearly 3 years and the list of problems and unfair treatments is longer than I care to recall. It has been constant throughout my time in Waterside Towers. Frequent rent increases only add insult to injury.
In 2004, we all endure repeated power outtages due to a old broken down generator that management did not seem in any particular hurry to have repaired. People moved out into hotels because they were forced to go days with out power. To explain the ridiculous amount of time that had passed, we were sent a memo with some story of a repair part that had to be specially made. Management had an inconsistent and poorly managed method of disbursing rent refunds for this period as some people actually got more of a refund than others.
For months, we were forced to endure a 18 wheel truck trailer in the courtyard that held a generator that powered one of the buildings with the broken generator. The problem was that it ran constantly - as a generator will - and sounded like a airplane landing. The noise was unbearable and we all cmoplained so they built a giant 2 story plywood box around the generator. The cables fdrom this monster ran through a garage door that was supposed to be closed for security since we pay $90/month to park there. Anyone and everyone was able to just go into the garage while the lazy security guards that management hired to watch the door sleep in their cars.
In the underground garage, pipes will leak some white chemical on your car and permanently discolor it with stains - I have several on my car that will not come off. My car has been ticketed by the DC police and the property security people at the request of management even though it has displayed a resident parking sticker since I moved here. My frequently ignored complaints to the management company in VA have brought this kind of personal attack from the office manager at Waterside. The manager, ---- -------, is rude and quite mean and certainly has a personal vendetta against those tenants that are critical of her. Like some of the other tenants that have posted here, I expect problems from her office when I move out.
Management recently inconvenienced everyone for days to paint the balconies and threatened tenants that refused to move items from their balconies with unauthorized entry and fines.
The cleaning people lay around the lobby of my building and sleep on the floors and sofas during the day.
There is a tenant association organized on the property that seems to try to defend the tenants from unfair treatment. The need for such an organization is most unfortunate when you consider the amount of rent that is charged.
There is a few positives - you cant beat the location and if dont mind paying the higher rent that the units with the good views call for, your view of DC can be nice. It is relatively quiet as well. However, those are the only positives and they are greater outnumbered by the negatives.
Take my advice and find some other place to rent if you must. Better yet, buy a condo in the area now before the prices get even higher since rent at Waterside is about the same as a mortgage payment in a SW condo.
