An Honest Tale of Misery from a Former Resident

I had an okay time at St. Andrews, until around January when this ghetto couple and their little undisciplined brat moved in upstairs. The noise was unbearable...this little monster would run around, jump, yell, scream at the top of her lungs for 5 minutes straight...I was tempted to call child protective services because I thought they were torturing this kid. And because the insulation was so poor, we could hear everything, loud and clear.
I did complain about noise to the office. Their response was to write a letter, which only made ghetto couple mad, so they started complaining that WE were making noise...one time even calling the police because they could hear our TV. Meanwhile the building would shake when their brat would run around, and they seemed to encourage her to make MORE noise because they knew it was getting to us. What did the office do to rectify the situation' Not a thing. They really didn't seem to care.
Speaking of the office...you can believe everything you??re reading about them here. It would be hard to overstate how completely clueless they are. When I went to turn in my last month's rent, they tried to make me pay more than I owed, claiming I didn't give 60 days' notice. I gave notice in the middle of February, but they said it didn't actually take effect until March 1st because of some bizarre rule that they just made up. I had them take out my lease and I showed them the paragraph that proved they were wrong. Then it took 3 of them to figure out how much my final rent payment should be. $1160, $870, $990...when they finally arrived at a number that was close to being correct, I got tired of arguing and just wrote the check and left. What I expected to be a 5-minute task took almost an hour, and left me completely frustrated and angry at their incompetence. How difficult is it to take my base rent, divide by 30, then multiply by the number of days I was there for the final month' Another thing, I rented a storage unit and they never could figure out what I owed for that. One time my unit was padlocked by maintenance because they said I wasn't paying for it. These people are barely capable of collecting rent checks every month. They are in desperate need of some real management.
I didn't mention the young couple who lived downstairs from us...the kid was a delinquent who liked to have loud fights with his girlfriend, even hitting her one time that I witnessed. He liked to end his fights by getting into his hot rod pickup with the shiny rims and squealing the tires loud enough for the whole complex to hear. I??m not a violent person by any stretch, but oh boy did I want to pound that little punk, especially when I saw him beat up his girlfriend. I did call the cops that day but both of them left before the cops arrived.
Speaking of police activity, I'm not surprised to read that crime is on the rise at St. Andrews. The surrounding area is pretty bad. You see all kinds of shady characters around the complex and in the area shopping centers. It blows my mind that they charge so much rent but offer ZERO security. Not even a gate, or a rent-a-cop on a golf cart, nothing. That to me is inexcusable, considering the recent problems with car break-ins, and just the fact that they claim it is a ??luxury?? complex. I saw that new billboard on Rte. 40 and almost threw up. To think that unsuspecting people from outside the area actually believe their advertising and sign leases (like we did!); it??s almost criminal.
We recently bought a house and couldn't be happier. I cannot express in words how grateful I am to be out of St. Andrews. I feel like a different person. Our mortgage payment is barely more than our exorbitant rent at St. Andrews...and I shouldn't have to mention all the benefits of owning...peace and quiet for one, better neighbors, and a great investment.
So move to St. Andrews at your own risk...maybe you'll have quiet neighbors like some have said here, or maybe you will be miserable like I was. Either way, just pray your car isn't vandalized. And if you do take that risk and are moving soon, may I suggest you request any area other than King James Court (my former ghetto home). Best of luck.
