Nice apartments and nice area.

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I currently live in the largest one bedroom apartment available; our view isn't so bad and our neighbors are pretty quiet. Some times I can hear the family next door to us (some kids and a teenager), but it's nice to greet them as we exit our apartments at the same time each morning. My husband and I are always open to taking a package for another tenant who isn't home because they've done for the same for us; we feel very safe in our area of the complex and like our friendly neighbors.
Ups: Large one bedroom fits queen size bed, dresser, chest, bedside tables, book shelf (w/ ample room for a comfy chair if we could get one I liked!); large walk-in closet, double sinks in bathroom, open floor plan for living room/dining room; lots of cabinet space in kitchen; island for preparing meals. There's also lots of parking, a decent view from our living room window, quiet neighbors. Grounds are kept up very well. Gym. Breakfast bar (which I heard was pretty good but only went once or twice many months ago).
Downs: Noise isn't a problem, but we do sometimes hear our neighbors (only right above or right next door; once I went upstairs to ask our neighbor to keep it down...we were both VERY friendly and made face to face contact and he apologized and lessened the noise); upkeep on grass was slow recently (needed cutting); people not cleaning up after their dogs (I've seen it with my own eyes); breezeway was dirty (but I called this Wednesday morning and talked to the manager at 6:30 AM who said they'd take care of it right away and when I came home it was all cleaned up!); pretty quick on maintenance. Oh! And there was a person driving a motorcycle around the complex this past week until about 10 or 11 PM; they were doing laps I guess and that was irritating but only lasted that one day.
My husband and I take walks around the complex ALL the time and feel very safe; we see kids and parents at the play ground spots and lots of teens playing basketball and having a fun time. I will argue that the rent is a bit high, but it really is a nice apartment place so I feel it's worth it compared to other places available for rent in Bear, DE.
My husband and I will be moving in August to NY because he's going to graduate school; we'll never find as nice a place up there (living space and storage), but we'll be happy to pay a lower montly rent when we do move.
If you really want to know about the place, come in late afternoons and evenings and just drive around. Stop and ask people about the place and how they like it. If my husband and I are about, feel free to stop and talk. I'd be more than happy to meet potential renters and tell them about the area... some people won't like the higher rent or floor plans; others will like the flowers and residential suburban feeling. Everyone building is different; if you would like to rent in August, our large one bedroom will be available probably - maybe we can set something up for taking over our lease. We've kept the place very clean and maintained - and hardly hung up any pictures so no holes in the walls! :)
