A Constant Headache

I have lived in East Pointe Apartments for about 3 yrs. Over the years, I have watched what use to be a great place to live turn into a slum. If you arent dealing with noisy tenants, you have to put up with no hot water, heat that works occassionally or pest. The only reason why the heat is working now, is because I had to call the Consumer Protection Unit ( a number that is found in your Delaware Landlord/Tenant handbook, that is given to you when you first move in)and filed a complaint. I highly recommend that everybody read that handbook, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A TENANT. When you go to the rental office and complain, you are given excuse after excuse, of why nothing can be done. Their solution to the problem is to tell the tenant to call the police or put everything in writting. Well, I have put things in writting several times, and the only thing that might happen is a memo is issued to everyone in the building listing the complaint and stating what parts of the lease a tenant is violating. They are so quick to talk about violations, what about the violations againist them. When I moved here I was promised that management handles all compliants in an efficient and effective way. I was also told that they abide by the lease that was given to me. What a joke! They dont abide by anything except your monthly rent check (that's one thing they stay on top of). Oh by the way calling the police, doesnt accomplish anything (as far as management is concerned), tenants are still allowed to stay with no repercussions. My lease expires this month and I am happy to say, I am not renewing my lease, nor will I be staying here. Save yourself the stress of moving here, pay a little extra money and live somewhere else.
