Not a Good Place To Live

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2008

I have lived here for 4 1/2 yrs now and I hate it. When my ex, my daughter and I 1st moved in, we were proud to say we lived at East Pointe. For the 1st 1 1/2 years, the community was well kept and management were on top of things. During my stay here, the people in the rental office has changed at least 4 times. I live in Building B (the same as the rental office) so I don't have the noise, rodent, and weed problems that most other people have mentioned on here. The maintenance people take forever to fix things that are wrong in the apartment and there seems to be an inspection like every other month. Here are all of my complaints that I have had over the years:

#1 - The bar in my closet fell due to me having too many clothes on it. I will admit I was the cause of this. I put the call into the rental office. My clothes were on my floor for a week before they fixed it. I understand it was not an emergency but for my clothes to be on the floor for a week seems unacceptable to me.

#2 - Since I have lived here, my tub has had problems draining. I take showers with water up to my shins at times. Due to dis, my tub has to be cleaned more than usual because the dirty water is not going down the drain like it should be. This problem has been reported to the office on more than one ocassion but it only gets fixed temporarily.

#3 - The rental office people are never there. The dumbest move they ever made was switcing to these laundry cards for the machines replacing the coin-op machines. The cards tend to eat $ by charing you double for a load. And the machine to replenish the card is in the rental office. Their hours are from 8:30 - 5:00 when they are there. I have to get my daughter to school by 8:15 and I had to be at work by 9 and I did not get home until 6pm. When am I supposed to replenish my card'''

#4 - My ex and I decided to call it quits so I was renewing the lease w/o her being on it. They made me go thru the entire process over again as in new application, new security deposit, etc. I had not prepared to pay a new security deposit so I did not have it financially. Before I continue, let me mention that we were never problem tenants, paid our rent on time each month (no exaggeration), etc but they were telling me that if I cannot come up with the deposit, I would have to move. In other words, they were kicking me and my daughter out with no place to stay. I asked them why can't the deposit that we used when we moved in be used and they said that since she is moving out, we have to start the process over. I make more than enough to cover the rent on my own (which I showed them) so I asked them why can't she forfeit her portion of the deposit and I pay her myself or when I move. They were not having it and they said it takes 6 weeks to give the deposit back. So I told them that I guess I will be moving. A week later they decided to go with my suggestion because they know people are not knocking down the doors to live there.

#5 - I saved the best (and longest) for last. Came home very late one night with my ex and my daughter standing outside of the apt. They said when they came home, they thought they saw something flying in the apt. I went in and did not see anything so we all went to bed. The next night, my ex and I are trying to sleep but we kept hearing this annoying scratching noise coming from the closet. We decided to sleep in the living room. I stayed home the next day and let the rental office know that my ex thinks she saw something flying in the apt and we heard a noise come from the closet. This was 8:00am. They had somebody from maintenance come to my apt at 4:17pm. We looked in the closet together and did not see anything. So that evening we are eating dinner in the living room and out of the corner of my eye I see this black thing flying into the living room. It was a freaking bat!!! It flew back and forth from our bedroom to the living room multiple times. We were all shook and not completely dressed but we could not stay in there so we managed to get out into the hallway. I called the emergency maintenance # from my cell phone, that I had to go back into the apt to get, letting them know what we saw around 7:15pm. They said that they would call me back once they get in contact with pest control. 2 hours later and I did not get a return call. I have my daughter in her PJ in the hallway on a school night and THEY DID NOT GET BACK TO ME. So I borrowed a neighbors yellow pages and called somebody myself. They came out in 15 mins and took the bat out of the apt.

So the next day I called the rental office letting them know I was pissed off about not getting a call back to let me know what was up. I then asked them to be reimbursed for having to pay almost $200 for the bat to be removed. They told me to put it in writing and submit a copy of the bill. 2 years and about 6 letters and copies of the bill later and I still have not been reimbursed for the expense.

This place is unbearable to live at. Yes it is affordable but you get what you pay for. I will not be renewing my lease for next year and I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Forgot to mention the rent has gone up $135 since I first lived here but the service gets worse and worse!
