DONT LIVE HERE

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004

I moved into Chelsea on the Square in August of 2002. I left at the end of September of 2004. For the love of God do not live here.

This placed looked great and I was under a time crunch, so when I moved in I thought it would be a pleasure to live here. I was so wrong.

These apartments are over 30 years old. They are badly in need of a complete renovation, but all they seem to get is a bandaid put on a bandaid put on... well you get the idea. IF you take a tour you will notice the kitchen is a few new knobs and fixtures put on old painted cabinets. That is basically a metaphor for this entire complex.

During my two years here I had the following problems:

*High speed internet broken
*Phone line broken
*Cable goes out in bad weather
*Water damage from laundry room next door
*Water damage from bathroom of the apartment above me
*Water damage from heating/AC unit of the apartment above me
*Broken heat in the winter
*Broken hot water
*Broken AC in the middle of summer
*Teenagers/children/tenants in the parking lot keeping me up after midnight

The first year I only had problems with the internet and laundry. They managed to fix those problems and I didn't expect them to return. So I renewed despite the fact that that they raised my rent by $100/month. I lived to regret it because I had all new problems.

In my second year there things really hit the fan with the rest of the list. Now I have found out that the complex lost my written notice of when I was leaving in a management change and I will have to pay them additional money on top of my security deposit. For God's sake don't live here. My horror story is unfortunately not an outlier. These apartments are falling apart and maintenance can't keep up.

Trust me, while the "higher end" complexes are a little more, they will actually save you money when you figure in the cost of laundry, utilities, water damage to possessions, and lower insurance rates.
