Leaving ASAP

If you have children, and you love them, GO ELSEWHERE! This complex is VERY unsafe. Since we moved in last spring we have called the police numerous times for the following: an M-80 was put in the downspout outside out building, gunshots in front of our building, a party at the community center across the street where they lit a car on fire, and another party where there were more gunshots, kids banging on our first-floor sliding glass door at 10pm, and finally, kids breaking in my daughter's bedroom window. There are a lot of troublemakers from across the street that like to come over and hang out behind our building and smoke pot, when they are not doing it in our laundry rooms (and management refuses to put locks on the laundry doors so only residents can access them). Oh, and it costs $3 to wash and dry each load of laundry, which is gouging when you consider your clothes will come out damp if you do more than 4 pairs of jeans, or 3 bath towels, at a time. Management must have a real fat contract with that company that provides the laudry equipment because they won't change and won't help you if you're having problems with it.
As for the units themselves, they are not all that bad. Yes, there are 17 layers of paint and it's always peeling somewhere, there aren't many windows so it feels very cave-like, and the windows aren't sealed well so if there is a strong wind it will actually move my blinds (with the windows closed). But, the kitchen was either recently redone, or well cleaned. The cabinets are vinyl wood, not painted, and the counters looked new. We refused to finish signing the lease until we looked though the actual unit we'd get, and it was good too, because the carpent had pulled at least an inch away from all the walls with old rusty nails showing (not good, especially with children) so we told them they'd have to replace it for us to move in and they did. The office staff has always been nice, the management is totally unresponsive though, so I'm not surprised about the turn over. The playground is also built for very big kids (who don't even use it) so if you have toddlers, it's useless.
In summary, maybe good for singles or people without children (who don't do laundry a lot), and don't live on the ground floor, it's ripe for vandalism.
