STAY AWAY

From: -Anonymous-

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007

We lived here for one year ('06-'07), and our entire stay was a nightmare. On our third day there, I awoke to find a maintenance IN my bedroom with me. And it was all downhill from there. Management is never there, and phone calls are not returned. We had homeless people sleeping in our hallways on numerous occasions, and again, management did nothing. There are no locks on the outside doors to the buildings, so anyone at all can just wander in. Twice we had attempted break-ins, and there we were many car thefts and break-ins. Seemingly every week a new notice was posted, saying that maintenance would need access to all apartments on a certain day. I would make arrangements to be home during that time, and invariably they wouldn't show up. Supposedly required "upgrades" were scheduled but never performed (i.e. thermostat, new lock system, etc.) Management even authorized Verizon, a private company, to spend days and days in your apartment, specifically in your bedroom. We were required to remove everything from the closet for their convenience. A security guard was supposed to be present all the time that they were in the apartment, but he spent most of his time outside smoking. Several times during those days I came home to find the apartment door not only unlocked, but wide open, and no one, including the security guard, anywhere in the building. Calls to management were ignored as usual. The apartment was constantly filled with cigarette smoke from our horrible downstairs neighbors, as it billowed up the heating shaft. And be prepared to hear every word that your downstairs neighbors say. The lease is also very shady, including many quasi-legal clauses. They also won't let you see the lease until you actually arrive with all your things in a U-Haul, when you have no choice but to sign it. We moved in on the 16th, and were told that if you move in after the 15th, you have to pay an extra month up front. Of course we didn't hear this until we had already signed the lease. If you do decide to live here, take photos of any and all existing damage to prove that you weren't the one who caused it. As for parking, it may seem like there's a lot, but be advised that most cars never move. Their owners find a spot right up front, and stay in it for literally weeks at a time, so that it can be difficult to find a space. The laundry rooms are dreadful and the machines seldom work; the dryers will take your money and seem to work, but produce no heat. And they require a reloadable card (for which you have to pay a "deposit" which you never get back). The machine for these cards is located in the office, which is never open, so you end up having to go to the laundromat all the time anyway. The only good thing about these apartments is their size, as they are fairly spacious. That really is literally the one positive note I can think of. If you have any alternatives at all, take them.
