A thorough and honest review.

Update 2008:
I will admit, this review was far too flowery and did not take all things into consideration. I was trying to get in with management and possibly get a job there. I had also just gone through a divorce and anywhere felt rosey good to me because I was free from my ex. The apartments are not as great as I made it seem. There were problems like noise, parking, cheap kitchen floors that were impossible to clean, overly strict management and ridiculous contracts.

I have been shocked at the mixture of reviews about Rockwood.

I have lived here for over a year now and have nothing but

positive things to say and can't imagine why anyone would say

otherwise. I am a working professional and I LOVE WHERE I

LIVE!! I will be buying a home shortly and I know I'll miss

living here. I used this website to find my apartment and I

was very intimidated because every apartment had something

bad written about it. So I write this review to be honest,

helpful, and reassuring to help someone find an ideal place

to live and realize that Rockwood is one of the best. I

further believe that places that carry good service and treat

people right ought to be well advertised. Rockwood deserves

this positive review and I hope it brings them many tenants

because other places will not treat you as well.

Let me describe Rockwood.

The Area: It is a large apartment complex nestled behind a

farmers field giving it an urban feel even though kmart, 2

walmarts (one open 24/7), lowes, and 2 grocery stores are all

within a 10 min. drive off of convenient route 40. I work at

JPMorganChase by the Christiana Hospital and can get to work

in 12 minutes on average.

The Apartments: The apartments are very large and roomy. In

my 2 bedroom both rooms are about the same size and each has

it's own bathroom making it very ideal for my room mate

situation. Our balcony is very nice and opens up to a wide &

long grassy field. The closet doors are mirrored and ceiling

fans in the rooms give a nice look and feel. The large bay

size window in the bedroom provides a beautiful view of the

outdoors and night sky. The appliances are all new and the

ice maker in the freezer is convenient. Each bedroom has 2

closets giving plenty of personal storage space. The kitchen

is a full size kitchen with plenty of drawers and cabinets.

The only complaint I have is that the hallway closet is not

larger and there is no other closet making it difficult to

know where to store stuff like my camping and outdoor gear,

and holiday stuff. The fireplace is very realistic flames

and adds a very cozy touch. The only other complaint is

there is only one spot for the tv cable in the corner of the

living room meaning you have to run a long ugly cable past

doors if you want the tv anywhere but that corner. I've also

read another review complaining about the snow and walkways. I've never had a problem except on my front porch, which I just shovel off myself but I'm sure if I called they would do it for me.

The pool gets a lot of use and I see a lot of dirt when I

swim with my goggles on. The 2nd childrens pool is perfect

size for my kids. The playground is fun and the tennis

courts and pristine. The wide grassy knolls make for lots of

running and playing. more trees would be nice. The fact

that the gym is accessible 24/7 is way nice.

Safety: I couldn't think of anywhere safer. The apartment

is not off any throughway so no one even has a reason to be

around it who doesn't live there. I think that reason

combined with the guard gate intimidates any would be

intruders. I've never seen or heard of anyones cars or

apartments getting broken into in the year that I've been

here.

Noise Levels:
I've read comments of people complaining about the noise -

WHAT NOISE'! This place is as quiet as a snow covered forest

on Christmas morning! I have often been shocked that there

is not more noise with how large this place is. You won't

hear heavy traffic, outdoor fire alarms, planes, trains, or

anything else. I don't even hear my neighbors, though I'm

sure I must have some. Only the ones below me when they shut

their front door hard. I don't think they hear me because

they've never said as much and I can be loud at times.

The Service:
The staff is happy, friendly, accomodating. The dvd rentals

are fun and there's usually a good mix to pick from. The

daily continental breakfast every morning is awesome! I love

getting my food on the run and having a good mix of bagles,

danishes, muffins, fruits, waffles, poptarts, cookies, or

breakfast bars to pick from. They do it right! Further they

throw numerous parties for the residents on a REGULAR basis!

And they go all out! Catered food, DJ, moon bounce (for

kids), drinks, disco lights, whatever the occasion calls for!

This is at least 4 times a year. My work doesn't even treat

me that well and I give them more than I give my apartments!

Overall bottom line: I moved in to Rockwood after my divorce

and I can't think of a better place to have recouped. I feel

rich living there with a wonderful standard of living. You

won't be sorry you move here!

This is clearly from the management. Regarding security, that is a flat lie - look at the visual map at the New Castle County Police Dept's website - there were 5 or 6 incidents in this development just 3-4 months ago. Some apts have decent fireplaces but most are the Phase 1 or 2 which have tiny little fireplaces with paltry heat/power output. Regarding snow removal, the streets are plowed late (after most people have left for work) and several times I have seen snow/ice sitting for over a day. Don't be tricked by glowing reviews like this one - it just doesn't match the majority of reviews here. Furthermore, it is realistic, especially for a urban sprawl, bedroom community like Bear.

I agree with you DRAKB. This place has gone down the drain. The office staff is rude most of the time. I'm not bad resident and I DO pay my rent. I've been here for 5 years. I am glad to say that I put in my notice and I am getting out of here. The snow removal is a joke. The dumpsters are nasty. Grass? Its lovely huh! I have no idea what you are talking about as far as phases go, but I never used the fireplace. That to me is a waiste of space.

Do you actually expect people to believe a review like this?? It sounds like a rental brochure. The rental office is continually on here misrepresenting the place and writing phoney reviews. They need to give it a rest, and actually do their job! Instead of playing on the internet!

This screams of an office idealistic brochure, especially all the details, WE had practically zero snow the last two years, and maintenance uses deice to death by the office and in front of where they and the manager lives, everywhere else gets to wait. the worst is the melt freeze, melt freeze like we had the last 2 years, they can barely keep the 400 units they have running properly... anyone notice the upcoming 600 unis coming this year?!?!? That lovely farm land between us and Rt 40 will be 600 more units soon, the farmer died, it was in his will that it would stay farmland during his lifetime no matter what, he died in the past few months and Mid Atlantic snaped it up! So if you think there are problems know, which we all honestly know there are all over the place, it's just a matter of what bugs any tenant the most, and who their neighbors are... think this place will get better when it doubles in size plus???
From: justoneofthemany Date: 12/16/2008
Obviously by office, the place was not built well so sound travels ! Every building is different whether you jump out of your skin when the train comes by twice a day or you barely notice... You can hear neighbors all the time to some degree slamming doors, cupboards, walking around, on the stairs can be really bad with hiking boots or high heels, not to mention stereos and people screaming at their kids ... to be fair on the noise... if you call the office and get the manager she usually acts and will evict problem people I hear
