My family lived at Salem Village for 2.5 years. In that time we have experienced the quality of tenants chosen to go drastically downhill (money talks).

Maintenance absolutely is awful. In our two years residency we have experienced:

* water leaking in our living room. So much so, a good portion of our ceiling had to be cut. That whole stayed there for 6 weeks until it was fixed. (calls made - 4)

* water leaking in a light fixture. The leak was so bad the actual light bulb and the socket was laying in water. (calls made - 3 & never fixed)

* garbage disposal backed up several times. Maintenance person admitted the problem was underground. His advise "in the future when selecting an apartment complex, always chose a 3rd floor. 1st floor apts always get the other floors garbage." (calls made over 6. was never fixed and management had no interest).

* electrical outage - sparks were coming out of the outlet in my child's room. There was an electrical shortage within our apartment only (could this have been caused by our light fixture').

* garbage was placed inside our apt as a reprimand for putting a garbage bag where there was no dumpster. Mind you there was a dumpster but they removed it with giving the resident notice. Yes! A full bag of garbage was placed INSIDE our apt with a note from maintenance. The person actually was given permission by management, Debbie, to go through bags of garbage to find out who it belonged to so that it could be placed back into their apt. That is disgusting!

* The tennis courts have been deteriorating over the last 4 years. It's just fenced in ground rot.

* The pool is uncared for all fall/winter. no cover, conditioning, draining, nothing. Then summertime, it's surfaced cleaned and filled for summer enjoyment. You have to wear swim shoes so that you don't cut your foot on the cracks in the flooring and inside the pool.

The so-called "kiddie pool" is a frog pond. Children literally go to the kiddie pool to catch frogs. Lake water is clearer. In the summer, this kiddie pool is the best place for mosquito infestation. With the scare of West Nile Virus, you would think management, Debbie, would do something/

If you read the reviews of Greenville Place (another Mid Atlantic Realty property) you will see maintenance and "shifty" management is commonplace.

Salem Village put my family in an unsafe environment health-wise & safety-wise. Management, Debbie, was well aware of the maintenance problems prior to us moving in. She allowed a family to move into an unsafe apartment.

Management tried to charge us an increased rent due to cabinets being updated. However, she never mentioned the reason the cabinets were updated was because the garbage disposal backed up so much it ruined the cabinets and the floor.

Something should be done!
