Not What They're Trying to Portray

I lived at VOC a total of 4 years (2 separate times). The first 2 years weren't bad, although I did have a leak in the apartment. I would not have gone back if I didn't think it was worth it, but my second time around was awful. Like many others I've read about here, I too experienced leaks around my windows whenever it rained (1st floor) and bugs. I also had two leaks from pipes that burst and one morning while getting ready for work, I suddenly was standing in an inch of water in the kitchen. I had to call a couple of times before anyone showed up-- it was almost as if no one believed me. Finally, help came-- even the manager-- and it was discovered that some main pipe or something IN THE NEXT BUILDING had burst. Outside, water was EVERYWHERE. I think the complex tries to project an upscale image from the outside and of course in the model, but once you move in, a dose of reality sets in and you find there are many problems there. I would suggest to anyone thinking about moving to VOC to carefully consider it-- the manager IS very rude. Someone suggested that the people who had complaints about her were the ones who didn't pay their rent timely. Even if that were the case, the manager should still treat all with respect and the simplest of courtesy. Her nastiness is uncalled for; I never understood what she thought her "toughness" was accomplishing. One can be "tough" without being hateful.
