STAY AWAY!!!!

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
We moved into VOC Nov of 2007. Things were ok, despite inital repairs like door handles on the kitchen pantry and cabinets not being fixed when asked (we ignored it since they weren't essential). The AC unit broke 5-6 times in 3 months and when asked to fix it the first time, it took 2 weeks for someone to come out. The second time it broke, in order to have it fixed in a timely manner (4 days) the office requested a doctor's note stating that the tenant had asthma that was affected by the heat. We complied. The 3rd time it broke, we referred back to said dr's note and they lost it so we had to get another one. It was like pulling teeth in order for them to fix the problem correctly. They even had the guts to tell us that the AC wasn't a necessity despite the fact that we were paying for it since it was included in our rent.
Everytime it rained, there would be a river in the back and a lake in the front due to poor grading and draining. We'd be walking in at least 6 inches of rain even if it wasn't raining too hard.
It was hard to sleep with the almost constant scratching of squirrels that nested in between the walls and ceilings. It drove my cat and us completely crazy.
In Nov, the toilets clogged and emergency maintainence people couldn't fix it. The next day someone else came out and disconnected the plumbing under the sink (which still amazes me that they tried to fix the toilet through the sink) and never reconnected it at the end of the day and no one informed us of this. We used the sink and water was leaking into our cabinet for at least a day before we realized there was damage. The hair dryer was dripping water so we wrote a letter to the office asking to be reimbursed for the damage ($20) and never got a response.
During the renovations, the doors were changed. We were given notice that work was going to be done, but never that the locks were going to be changed as well. All 3 tenants had to work late the night of the change and we ended up being locked out of our apartment. The emergency maintainance line was shut off for the night and no one was answering at the management company. We had to break in through an unlocked window in order to get into our own apartment. The next day we went to the office asking where the keys were and they swore that they contacted us and left a message, but none of us ever heard anything. Also, the workers never finished the work and there were gaps all around the windows and doors where you can see daylight. We lost 5 degrees of heat to the draft that was coming through the gaps.
The girls at the office will lie straight to your face about stuff. We wanted to double check the time period for giving notice to terminate the lease. The one girl in the office looked us straight in the face and said 30 days. When we turned in a typed up letter on Dec. 1, she looked at it and said that we needed 60 days notice. A letter was sent out to us from the office in Nov. stating that we needed to let them know if we were going to renew by Dec. 1st. She told us that since we didn't give adequate notice, we'd have to pay rent along with the 20% month-to-month fee (equaling total about $1100). I ended up writing up a 3 page letter and faxed it over to Vintage Properties and left a contact name and phone number and asked for them to contact us so we could discuss this. It's now been almost a month and we haven't heard ANYTHING from ANYONE.
WHATEVER YOU DO STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!! THE PRICE MAY BE THE CHEAPEST IN THE AREA BUT THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE AND YOU'LL END UP GETTING SCREWED IN THE END!!!!
