it's not that bad, but you should know...

your car will get broken into if you have any kind of stereo. The office will do nothing about it. The rental manager, Vicki, will say anything to get you to rent a unit, and will flat-out lie about the condition of said unit. Some maintenance issues will never be fixed. The ones that do get fixed will require a lot of phone calls on your part. The complex is near Section 8 housing (and all that that implies). The office automatically sends out "failure to pay" notices to all tenants, regardless of the particulars of the lease agreement that they have signed, and will threaten to evict you and/or take you to court for failing to pay money you do not owe. The pet deposit is one month's rent and I would be surprised if you ever see it again, along with your security deposit. The air conditioning units are set in the ceiling of the hallway, and are very loud when turned on. Additionally, the vents in the front of the apartment (living room and dining room) are just for show; they are not even connected to the A/C unit. The thermostat is located in the living room. So, when the A/C is on, it will only cool half of the apartment, it will never turn off automatically, and your cooling bills will be ridiculously high.

On the plus side...

The atmosphere varies greatly depending on what building you are in. The units near the rental office are the safest, but they are also closest to the entrance of the complex. The rent is reasonable. The location is very convenient to 273, 95, 1 and 40. The walls are pretty thick and I hardly ever hear my neighbors. Additionally, the tenants I have met here are nice. There is a pool (if you feel comfortable enough swimming in it). The units are comfortably large and well laid-out. The appliances are adequate. Maintenance is not that bad.

Overall, you'll deal with a lot of ---- (but not unusual for an apartment complex) and you probably won't regret living here. But don't quote me on that.
