Section 8 residents fighting again

When you see about 8 residents outside in a group all yelling at each other, you know trouble is brewing. A couple of minutes later 4 New Castle county police cars arrived. Section 8 residents fighting again. Same thing happened last week. I know people have to live somewhere. But, The Vinings is advertised as a "luxury apartment complex". However, there are more section 8 families here than decent families. It is a constant source of vandalism, loitering, fighting, loud stereos, garbage thrown on the ground, etc. The electric security gate was installed out of necessity to try and keep non residents out also but it has been broken for over 3 years. This is certainly a "ghetto". Full rent paying residents are all leaving. What we have left are ghetto welfare residents paying as little as $50 per month. This is slowing becoming another Wilmington apartment complex.

I totally agree, and the regional Manager -------- is a waste of company time..she refuses to respond to ALL phone calls. Several of us are writing letters to the Attorney General's office and the OWNER of Shelter Properties. This place surely has gone bad..and the Asst Manager ----- states Section 8 are her best tenants. They are better than the full paying tenants. Yeah..all about the rent check.

If the Asst Manager ----- made this statement to you or in front of you that is a form of discrimination and you should file a complaint with the Attorney General office.

OMG, sooo many people have sooo much to say.. Dont people know that its not always Sec.8..That more crap comes from some that pay the "full" rent. Some of the disabled dont pay full rent. Do ya think they can go and work from a wheelchair or from in and out of a hospital, with an illness??? AND if thats the case, the rent is paid straight from the state, or SSI. I dont think anyone has ever paid just $50,a bit more then that I would think. As far as the assist. manager, she needs to not be so short with residence. And for GODS sake...Stop preachin the gospel. We have overheard her speaking with people(residence or otherwise),and saying about things being in Gods hands..he will take care of things. I beleive in the Lord but some dont and find it offensive. Its not so bad here as some say it is.It has calm down alot. |

I beleive in the Lord also, and it isn't his place to do ------ job! All she does is let stuff go in one ear and out the other, and if you really confront her with stuff and be persistant, then all she does is pass you off to someone else in the office, Namely -----. I can see a LITTLE why ----- is frustrated at times BUT you have to be proffesional in her position and the Customer(tennants in our case) should always be treated respectfully no matter what. Now I have seen plenty of trash in this place and people who don't deserve to be treated with respect, but hey, The Vinnings let them in here to begin with. After a year here, I can honestly say that MOST of the problems here are casued by the kids running around unsepervised. Yesterday, there were 12 of them standing outside on top of the big green trasformers stomping on them as LOUDLY as possible and this went on for a good 20 minutes. IT isn't the first time I have seen the same kids destroying property around here, wheter it is personal(cars) or the Vinings property. But you tell ----- and she tells you to go to their parants yourself! |

It is a total digrace that Shelter Properties will not investigate all of these complaints. Thank God that I looked at all the reviews before signing a lease. I am not from the area and was told by the "leasing agent" --------- ----- that this was a gated community and there was a police officer and a military guard on site. After reading all of your reviews (thanks much) we decided to come to the property after hours. WOW!! It was a total ghetto. Teenagers huddled around the main entrance, trash and debris all over the grounds. Not only were we deceived, but they wanted $1225 per month for rent. I don't think so. The community is really beautiful inside and I hope that for the good tenant's sake that this will change. Stand up to the management company and fight to live in a descent community.
