I moved here in 2005 and cannot wait until my lease is up and I can get out of here.

The pros: my one bedroom apt is completely newly renovated with all new appliances including full size w/d. Rent is not bad.

The cons: if you want an apartment with a responsive maintenance staff, forget it. My window was broken for almost three weeks despite me reporting it immediately in writing. During that time, I was broken into and had a few belongings stolen including my checkbook. If you want hot water and heat at all times, forget it. I have had numerous outages of both for more than 24 hours. Security is nonexistent, I changed my locks and intstalled window locks. EVERYONE ON MY FLOOR HAS HAD UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY INTO THEIR APARTMENT BY MAINTANENCE, OR THEIR APARTMENTS HAVE BEEN BURGLARIZED. If you ask the leasing office about criminal activity, they will lie. I now have security cameras installed so I can monitor my apartment from work. I don't have a rodent problem, but have had ants come in; I used Raid for that, seems to be holding up. Canby Park is also next to a Section 8 apartment complex, so there are always sketchy people hanging around, I don't really feel safe at all. I've even heard gunshots that sounded like they were directly outside. Their tenant screening is horrible, they'll rent to anyone who has money and a pulse. My car hasn't been broken into (yet), but I keep nothing of value in there. I feel compelled to write this review because I have had enough of this crap. I won't even mention the previous arson on the buildings.

In October, 2005 the outside temperature was getting down in the 30s at night. I asked one of the property managers, "Why isn't the heat on'" She replied, "The 'owner' won't let me turn it on."

If you feel like you need to share a 40 with the homies in the Section 8 complex across the street, this might be the place for you, be sure to bring your foodstamp card.

EDIT: I decided that I would create my own little apartment blog in the few remaining months that I'm here. There's likely to be many additions.

1/24/06: No heat or hot water, it's going to get down to 35 degrees tonight. I called the "messenging service", and they asked if I considered this to be an emergency. I replied, "Yes". They laughed over the phone.

3/1/06: No heat or hot water again. We are supposed to have an ice storm tonight. There were some outages in February that I didn't post about too. What blissful living! I actually had to turn on the oven and leave it open to get some heat.

I used to live close by and I agree with the above review. This place is sooo ghetto and so unkept.
