Nice old place.. but there are issues.

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
First off, in response to others, I've never had a problem with maintenance. EVER. They are quick and thorough. They've also been doing quite a bit of outside maintenance to prevent water damage. The grounds are kept, though nothing special--residents tend to plant more flowers than management. Neighbors in general are great, and a plus is that there are only 4 apartments in each hallway.
Now, the issues: Lack of communication. The office has NO means in place to relate upcoming construction, maintenance, etc. to residents. There was a home invasion over the weekend, and naturally I had to read it in the newspaper on TUESDAY.
I've also woken up to the sound of maintenance workers hammering on my window at 8am. I work later in the day and usually sleep past 8. There was no warning. There was no warning about a traffic shift at the entrance, and I was nearly run over head-on by an older resident who after, oh 40 years living there wasn't ready for change.
Another issue is the sudden massive move-in of migrant workers. I have no concern about the race or ethnicity of my neighbors, but I do have a problem with neighbors who will have no reason to follow the lease. They have no furniture and no fixed connection to the apartment community, so they have no reason to abide by the lease--and they don't. They are mostly males--and more than the lease allows in each apartment--which means weekend drinking on the steps and car maintenance in the STREET. Both against the lease. They just simply have no reason to care, as they'll be moving along to the next job soon enough. If you visit, just take note of the out of state license plates--against state law, and the lease, but not enforced. Watch the oil changes, radiator replacements and autodetailing in the STREET. This is a brewing mess.
Finally, the lease says one dog or cat per apartment, under a certain weight. This is not followed, so bring your 15 dogs by all means! Let them crap all over the grass where people MUST walk to get to their cars. Weight limit' I've seen piles large enough for an elephant to have left!
At any rate, I'm pretty happy living at Greenville place, but the management needs to start communicationg with residents. A monthly newsletter would suffice. An email newsletter or website would work. This is 2004 afterall! Enforcement of the lease would also be nice. There is far too much BS going on, and getting worse. I do fear that life at Greenville will get progressively less pleasant, because management does not communicate with residents or enforce the lease. Both of which creates a vicious cycle of rules in the lease becoming illegitimate to residents.
