Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006

-- Apartments are old (built right after WWII)
-- I can smell all the cigarette smoke and burning things from the neighbors in my apartment (management acknowledged that separation between apartments is 'leaky')
-- I often smell smoke in the kitchen and bathroom. Not quite sure where it's coming from.
-- If you work 9-5, you'll have a tough time getting any attention from maintenance after hours.
-- hallways are rarely vacuumed. The carpet is filthy.
-- ample parking, but potholes galore and crumbling stone blocks.
-- bathroom has no outlet which works with the light off'! Have to recharge shaver and toothbrush in bedroom. How stupid is that.
-- laundry room is a mess; I've wasted many dollars and hours on dryers with no heat. Only 1 building with laundry, so you may have to drive to it if you're not close.
-- make sure you can get a condition on your lease to affordably move to another apartment if you get a bad situation (if you have to live here at all)
-- you need to give 2 MONTHS NOTICE to move out. And they can change that too. Try to get an unchangeable move out notice period of 1 or 1.5 months. In fact, demand it.
-- READ THE LEASE carefully. My impression is the landlord/tenant relationship based on legal formality, not one of neighborliness.
-- they do have a nice built in spice rack in the kitchen, though.

Bottom line: I've had a very bad experience here. It could be drawing a bad apartment, with bad neighbors. If you do decide to live here, make sure your unit is free from the negatives I've had to face. Also, demand that a condition be placed on your lease which allows you to move to another unit or out completely if you get stuck with a bad situation. Otherwise, you'll either be miserable or get stuck paying to move out.

Management is a mixed bag. You get some who are polite and helpful. Others don't seem to care as long as they get your rent. Unfortunately, the latter seem to be the ones with the power to do anything.
