Can't wait to move

There is quite a laundry list to complain about. When I first moved in, they told me I had "new" carpet. I would walk across my floor and the bottoms of my feet were black with dirt. My baby was crawling, and I was terrified she would get sick before the carpet cleaners that I HAD TO PAY FOR could come clean the carpet.

My apartment is noisy, people talk (or scream) loudly outside and in the hallway, which amplifies the sound. The hallways are disgusting: spider webs everywhere and the sidewalks need to be pressure washed. Parking is a nightmare. Other residents park in the fire lane or block other cars in and leave their car there for days. The office staff does nothing about it if you complain. People will sit in their cars early in the morning and honk their horn to signal a resident that they are there, waking the entire building.

It took maintenance 9 months to fix a bathroom fan after I hounded them constantly. I've put in another service request and am still waiting over a month later.

I've gone to the pool behind the club house and seen people smoking and drinking beer from glass bottles while IN the pool. I went right into the office and complained. A guy told me that he would wait a few minutes to see if they would leave. He just didn't want to come out and enforce the community rules. I was there for over an hour and no one ever came out. Later that week, my husband took my daughter to the same pool and stepped on glass while in the pool.

The office staff put a note on my door stating that I was in breach of my lease because I had put a small microwave sized cooler on the patio to dry before I put it in my outside storage closet. It was there for maybe 2 hours. My neighbors hang their tighty-whities out on their patio rail to dry and they never seem to get a notice.

The claim that this is a "gated community" is a joke. The gates are always broken. I'm paying for a gated community and certainly don't live in one.

An amenity we were excited about when we moved in was you could rent a furnished 2 bedroom / 2 bath apartment for $75 a night for when you have company from out of town. The first time I reserved this unit, it was dirty. My family arrived, and the sheets in the unit hadn't been changed, dirty dishes were in the sink, there was smelly garbage in the garbage can, and the kitchen light didn't work. We had to find a hotel for them to stay in, and it took a fight to get my $75 back for the night they couldn't sty there. Ever since I complained, the unit has been "unavailable" even when I've called six months in advance for a non-holiday weekend.

The maintenance team only picks up garbage around the units if they can reach it while sitting in their golf carts. My upstairs neighbors throw beer bottles, Slim Jim wrappers, and deli meat wrappers off their balcony and it all ends up outside my windows. I've gathered it all up multiple times and put it in a garbage bags. I left it by the sidewalk for the maintenance guys to throw away. Two weeks later I finally walked it to the dumpster myself.

My neighbors let their dogs run around off leash. They run up to my dog when I'm walking him and bark and growl. One dog went after my daughter who was pushing her doll stroller down the sidewalk with me to get the mail. There is dog poop everywhere, even on the side walk, and no "poop-free" grassy area to play or have a picnic.

I'm really worried about the construction which hasn't started on my building yet. My apartment already seems dark and dreary to me now, as there is minimal natural light and few windows. I can't imagine what it will be like when they put black plastic coverings over my windows.

I wish I had picked another place to live. My lease is up this fall. I'm counting the days.
