This is the WORST place I have ever lived!!! My family and I moved here because of the nifty 'free' move-in special. Big mistake! When we first got the key to the apartment we were overwhelmed with the smell of dog hair and carpet shampoo. After we vacuumed up the dog hair all over the apartment we realized to our horror that the carpet was infested with fleas, and so was all of our stuff we had just moved into the apartment. We had to wait a week and a half for the bug guy to come out and spray all the while my infant son, my husband and I are being eaten alive by these fleas. When I complained about having the carpets replaced I was met with a gruff response about the carpet not needing it from the office manager... We ended up selling/replacing a lot of the furniture that we moved into the apartment due to the flea infestation. And that was just the first two weeks!!! About a month after that, a pipe (from the upgraded package apartment) broke apart and flooded the kitchen and laundry room. A maintaince guy showed up the next day, stoned out of his mind and tried to do a 'quick fix' to the plumbing. About a week later, the same thing happened, only this time it backed up the sink as well as flooded the floor. It took almost 2 days to get someone out that time only to do yet another 'quick fix' After the third time the pipe snapped, I called and threatened to leave the apartment, someone showed up the same day and it was finally repaired... As if all that was not enough, within weeks (Literally) of that mess, the A/C unit started leaking from the ceiling, flooded down the wall and into the front hall closet and onto the hallway carpet. Again, another incapacitated maintance man showed up (6) six days after I made the initial call for service. It was so bad by the time the maintaince guy showed up that I would not let anyone in or out of the front door. The carpet was sopping wet, just about every day we had to vaccum the water up and dump it into the kitchen sink. When the maintaince man shows up, the guy opens up the A/C handler, looks at it and say he is going to have the office call their A/C guy. He messed with the unit somemore and left. All the while, the leaking is getting consistantly worse. I called the office everyday only to get the same response. "The A/C guy is on his way" A few more days go by, and we started noticing these little black roaches appearing all over the front entry way. (where the leaking was) The A/C guy finally shows up and clamps the hose to the drain tray and tells me to wait 2 weeks for it to dry out. So, all this time I am 'waiting' for the walls/closet and ceiling to dry out. Meanwhile watching everything turn into a moldy nightmare. Not to mention the roaches were getting worse. It smelled horrible!! You would walk in and the whole apartment smelled like mildew and rotting drywall. My sitter was there with my baby and she could not even breathe it was so bad. We almost called Department of Health. (Why we did not I am still racking my brain) Needless to say we all got sick, very sick. The doctor's agreed it was mold related and told us to contact the leasing office ASAP. (I think I was being very patient up until this point). When I first came into the office to make the request in person, I was met by a rude salesmen who 'acted' very concerned about the situation. Was anything done, of course not. I had to leave 2 more messages before ANYONE called me back. By this point, I just assumed they were ignoring me, so again, I threatened to not pay my rent until this issue was resolved. The next day (after threatening to not pay) this jackass drywall guy shows up and does a 'quick fix' cutting out two small sections of dry wall, mudding and taping and painting it within an HOUR of showing up. I was furious!! The mold kept coming back, it took another (3) weeks to get someone to show up and fix that. It took me calling everyday, threatening to not pay my rent, threatening to call the news, and finally dragging the office manager into the apartment to look at the damage. A few days later, the same drywall guy showed up again, and did (you guessed it) another 'quick fix' drywall patch. Needless to say, I had threatened to call the news if this was not done. (That was the ONLY way to get them to fix this) The mold had gotten so bad at that point it was growing on the wood frame inside the wall. The drywall guy came out again, bleached the area and finally fixed the mold issue. To this day, we have not gotten new carpet put it for the water damage or the carpet in the closet replaced. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. We have had to call the police out here now twice because someone had tried to break into the apartment. Needless to say it took maintaince almost 3 weeks to replace the broken porch door handle from the first attempt. The worst part of ALL of this.... we have only been here for (5) five months..... All I can say is ... Sue Sue Sue!

Just so you know you're not alone, I went through a similar situation with them and ultimately had to hire an attorney, and withheld rent, which you DO have the right to do. They of course will try to fight it, but its been almost two years since I moved out of that disgusting place and its yet to be resolved. I moved out approx. 4-5 months after moving in. I'm sorry to hear that you have experienced the same dead ends and long list of problems. I say hire a lawyer, find another place to move, and get out. It won't get any better! It was the best thing I ever did! Best of luck to you!

I went 2 look there, and wasn't it funny that they showed us the model but would not take us all around the property? I also saw a drug dealer outside the gates waiting for people to buy. Thank God I didn't move in there!

As unbelieveable as this story sounds, I believe this all happened. It sounds like a similar problem with my bathroom when I was a resident earlier this year (2007). The faucet in my shower dripped and after several attempts to 'fix' it, maintenance decided to bring in a plumber to replace the unit in the wall. He tore out the wall and replaced the unit but it took Los Altos over a month to come back and replace the wall so that I could use the shower or tub. I also had a leak in my bedroom ceiling that they 'fixed' by painting over it .. time and time again! But what made me decide to move out was when I heard the staff won a trip to Las Vegas this past spring for Los Altos being one of the 'top' United Dominion apartment complexes. As for why they did not drive you around .. possibly because of the huge tan storage trailers that have been on propert for over three years. Or perhaps all of the abandoned cars. Or maybe the overflowing trash compactor!

I currently have a similar problem with a different property (Camden Renaissance). My hose busted (I guess there was too much pressure in the line) when I was not home and flooded the apartment for god only knows how long. When we got home there was 3" of water in the entire apartment...so I understand what you went through. I hope that you got a better place and that everything is resolved-good luck. If I find a good lawyer I'll try to send his/her name your way.
