Worst. Management. Ever!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006

I've lived at the Park at Vineridge for nearly 3 years now. I like the location and my apartment is very nice, however, every time I have had to deal with the management team I end up wanting to move. The last straw was when there was a fire in the apartment above me. The sprinklers upstairs went off flooding my neighbors apartment, which then began to leak down into my apartment. I was able to move my furniture to minimize the damage to my personal belongings. However, the water was pouring through the a/c vents, lighting fixtures and even the breaker "box". That night, the only person from the Park at Vineridge that I spoke to was the maintenance manager who said they couldn't do anything until the morning. When I went back the next morning, I arrived just in time to have the management "team" - snobby, British women that wouldn't know service or compassion if it bit them on the rear - come in to "assess" the damage. And I quote, "Oh, it's not so bad, well have the carpet dried up in no time!"
When I asked what they planned to do with the ceiling that was caving in, the damage to the drywall, the damage to the lighting and electrical fixtures I got brushed off as if I shouldn't expect answers from them. When asked about whether or not I could get a temporary living situation until the repairs were made I was told that I would have to wait as they checked with their regional management. So I got a call a few mins later and was told, by the property manager, that I would have to find another place to live on my own until the half-baked repairs were complete or I could take a smaller apartment on property. The catch there was that I would have to sign a new lease and I would be charged the "off the street" current market price which was higher than what I - a resident of 3 years - currenly pay for my larger apartment.
When I told them this was unreasonable and that they weren't accomodating me, they became very rude, defensive and acted like they owe me nothing. I understand that they own the property and ultimatley can do what they want, but for a management company that prides themselves on making life better for their residents, they certainly missed the mark. In the past year, they've complicated life for residents by taking away the convenient door-to-door trash service (even though we still pay for it in our rents)- residents are now required to drive their trash in their cars (or walk) up to the dumpster at the front of the complex. Also, they've added a gate system that, when it is in use, blocks certain entry points after dark (I live in the back of the complex but I can't get in thru the back at night - I have to drive all the way around to the front).

While the apartment complex itself is nice, I must warn you to beware of the property managers. They treat you like they don't want you living here. I was shocked at their behavior after something as serious as what I'm dealing with right now.

I am moving to a new apartment as soon as this situation is settled.
