Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I lived in Manatee Bay for 2 years. The first year was great Lisa the manager was wonderful and we never had many issues. Sharon the leasing agent was also great. The place was clean and the grounds well kept. The neighbors were nice and it was safe to walk around the grounds at night with your pet. Then year two hit and things kinda fell apart. It took them six months to paint 2 buildings and their ugly(but they are painting, I guess). The neighbors are still ok, but there are way too many empty apartments because the rent is higher then usual. But makes for more parking. Some cars were broken into but its really a very safe grounds area. Well lit, etc. You do have a nice pool and club house, etc. The kids are horrible and most of the parents let them run wild (not all) but thats apartment living really. I did have some potheads and crack addicts living in my building, they were trash. The first year when lound and crazy people lived there Lisa ran then out. But now with so many empty apartments, I guess they are losing money and they don't care when several extra people live in each apartment so long as they get their rents, but that is also apartment living.
Neighbors did have their dealer coming to the house, heard many sales going down on my poarch. I am not dumb enough to say anything to them and get my car smashed in or worse. The new manager is rude and very unpleasent, but her staff is still top notch (Amy). For the most part the place is nice but the reality IS the outside area/neighborhood is bad, there ARE crack heads and hookers just a block away on MLK and sometimes they wandered up our way. That was not Manatee Bay's fault..thats just Boynton Beach Florida...nice areas and bad areas. They broke in to the mailbox and they did find a dead body one day on the beach (gross). After they took out the trailer park next door it got somewhat better, the bus route is nice for shopping but does bring in a few shady people. There were drunks from time to time sleeping in the grass or in the clubhouse chairs..the police chased them out. The store to the left of Manatee Bay sells crack pipes right at the counter (marked as glass pens)what a joke and rolling papers etc..if you are dumb enough to think its not out there then you should not be living in Manatee Bay.
Overall, it did have nice people and some of the more mature neighbors play cards and had wine parties with eachother, always invited everyone to the pool parties etc. People sit on their patios and grill out and say Hi, its pretty friendly. I did feel safe with the fence and other things..I walked my dog at all hours and never locked my door when I was walking her or taking out the trash. Lost my keys more then once and they were always turned in. The cops came quickly when needed or called. However the front gate broke daily but thats also in part to drunk residents hitting it with their cars...apartment living. The car music was loud at times...
Just go in with your eyes open if your looking to rent...even with all that I experienced I would move back there...the apartments were nice, clean and big and mostly quiet, nice neighbors, a strict pet policy. They should have had a stict policy on potheads but thats most of Florida. They did come up with some garbage to keep my deposit but again thats apartment living. Compaired to whats around...its a good place.
