Good for dog owners

There aren't too many large dog-friendly places around, so that is a big plus for some pet owners. A pet deposit and pet rent is additional, usually $200 deposit and $10/month.
It's a good location- right next to restaurants and strip malls on one of the main roads, Cortez Road. Plenty of bus stops around. Close to YMCA and G.T. Bray Park. About 10 minutes or less from Anna Maria Island.
The floor plan for the one bedroom apartment is weird. There is no sink in the bathroom, it's in the "vanity area" of the bedroom, which is an open hallway with a counter. I've only ever seen that in hotels! The two bedroom layout is much better. Unfortunately you can hear quite a bit of what goes on above you if you are on the ground floor (even with quiet neighbors). On the second floor you can still hear a little bit beneath you (especially in the bathrooms) but it is definitely quieter. The lanai/balcony areas, however, can be so sound-transparent that it can feel like you have unintentional visitors.
The apartments are in various stages of renovation, so what you get can vary from unit to unit. All units have new appliances, many have new flooring, the rest is hit or miss.
All apartments come with a small washer/dryer stack and a microwave. No utilities are included (not even water/sewer/trash). Valet trash service (pick up at your door Sunday through Thursday) is mandatory and at an additional cost.
New amenities are pending but not yet complete (as of 08/15/2008) and the new landscaping is just about done. Pool area is currently closed.
Parking can become a hassle in the evening. Open parking is first come, first serve. There are carport spaces available for additional rent, approx $15/month. Free boat, trailer, or commercial vehicle parking is available in designated areas.
Office staff is friendly and helpful. Maintenance response time can be hit or miss, but not bad.
Bottom line, if you get a good deal then go for it. It's a nice place to live but there are plenty of comparable places to choose from. Add up all the extra charges when making a decision and inspect the actual unit you are interested in. Don't assume what will be replaced before you move in- be sure to ask.
