Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2002
I have been living at the Harbor for nearly a year and a half now. I really liked it when I first moved in but it has since lost it?s luster. I originally chose it for the landscape and proximity to work. I now work in Longwood and I?m not sure if the landscaping is worth the price.
Facilities
My first week here, I went to use the vaccum cleaner they provide for cars. I put in my money and nothing happened. Desparate, I put in more money and it still didn?t come on. This is fine, I understand machines break. I asked if there was an external outlet I could use my own Shop Vac and was eventually given permission to use the outlet on the maintainance building.
For nearly a year, I use this outlet until two months ago when I find the outlet was removed. I happened to meet someone from maintainance who told me that they covered it to keep ``people?? (ie, me) from using it and that it ran their electric bill up to hundres of dollars a month. This was completely bogus. I imagine a public electrical outlet wouldn?t very very difficult to provide.
Management
Overall, the management is pretty good with only a few exceptions. First, I disagree with them arbitrailriy increasing our rent when it came time for us to renew our lease. We?ve also had a misunderstanding with management that probably isn?t worth mentioning other than to say that we were treated unfairly by one of the staff.
Maintainance
I?ve found the fellow who maintains our building to be for the most part, incompeteant. Rarely are things fixed correctly the first time.
Location
The complex is very conveniently located across the street from a Wal-Mart, publix, several banks, and quite a few resturants. You can also easilly get to Maitland, Altamonte Springs, Winter Park, Longwood, and I-4 from The Harbor.
Bugs!
The beautiful lake and lush greenery seem to breed misquitos. Not just a few but HUGE SWARMS of them. If you live on the lake, be prepared to fight them off.
Parking
Parking is also a difficult situation. We ended up getting a car port. People tend to park in the fire lanes and block others in. What is worse is that I get stuck having to pay extra just to park where I live. I brought up this point when they increased my rent but I didn?t get a satisfactory response (my rent still went up and I ended up paying more for a car port!).
Crime
Crime is a little higher than youd expect but in general, I feel safe and I dont fear for my belongings (Ive left my sunroof open plenty of times to find everyting where I left it). There was a case where vandals destroyed some of our property but it was minor.
Conclusion
I?ve changed my tune about The Harbor since my last review. I?m now looking for a home to rent. I can?t recommend this apartment to anyone unless you must live by a lake and you enjoy wasting money.
