My boyfriend and I searched the Orlando area extensively for a good apartment, and finally ended up at Newport Colony. I have to say that in the Orlando area, this is the best apartment complex for the money. We have a one bedroom one bath (657 sf) and we currently pay $802. I really don't have too many complaints, but I want to cover everything, so that anyone who reads this knows what to expect. First, let me say that 657 sf doesn't seem small, and the overall layout of the apartment is great, but once you mesh together two people stuff you really realize that you need more space. There is minimal storage in the apartment (small coat closet, very small regular closet). A man and woman cannot fit their clothes comfortably together in these closets. Second, I was very annoyed on our move in day, when they failed to have our carpets cleaned. They sent the guy in that morning & we moved our stuff in on wet carpet. Third, when we were shown the model of the 1/1 they were unable to open the door on the balcony that holds the washer and dryer. I found out on move in day that our water heater was suspended directly above the dryer, and you have to maneuver underneath it to turn the dryer on. I was so pissed because the one thing they were unable to show me, became the biggest problem. Whoever laid that plan out was not thinking clearly. Lastly, I know this is probably a general problem with all apartments, but no one should be punished because they have a pet. Most people work normal business hours, and I should not have to take a day off because I have a dog, and you gave me 1 days notice that you were coming in my apartment.
Some good things are the office staff is very friendly (except one lady who could just be "harsh" in nature), they always come fix maintenance problems quickly, the grounds are beautiful, the apartments are cute, they paint an accent wall for you and the back splash in the kitchen, and they don't try to "fix" an appliance if it just needs to be be replaced.
Well, anyway, we're moving when our lease it up in October to a huge apartment with a garage and it's just more upscale. The rent on our apartment is going up and I cannot justify spending that amount of money for 657 sf!

Well, where did you move to? It'd help to know (for people moving from out of area) the more upscale places.
