I applied to live at Aluna Largo last year (2008). I was looking to obtain a unit for myself and my son. I fit the criteria for the income based rent (equal opportunity) and had paid the required $50 application fee. Unfortunately at the time of my application the unit I was hoping for was unavailable. Joe was the rental agent who took in my application and I guess was in charge of my file from then on. Upon approval of my application I was offered one of the more expensive units, which was available immediately, but I assumed that the whole idea behind the unit being an "affordable" one was that I could afford the rent. I am a single mother on one income and could not afford $700 plus a month for rent. I called each week, several time a week on some occasions, inquiring on whether or not a unit had opened up. If Joe was there, he had no new information for me EVER, but most of the time he was "out of the office" and I had to leave a message, to which I never EVER received a return call. This went on for at least two months if not more and at that point I just said screw it and called it a loss. There was no doubt in my mind that had I been applying for a non-income based unit I would have been treated with respect and not like a second-rate citizen. Pitiful.
