Spend a night before moving in

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2002

I looked at this community and all the others in Feather Sound / Carrilon Park several years ago and thought it was one of the nicest. This year I decided to move into Audubon Villas based mainly on my previous experiences visiting the property and on a brief walkaround of what was to become my apartment. On moving in, a more thorough examination of my apartment revealed a number of concerns -- broken fixtures, leaky pipes, dirty window dressings, sloppy paint jobs, etc -- all things that should NOT be present upon moving into a new apartment. Management was informed of these and it promptly responded to my satisfaction.

Admittedly, the carpets were new and the tile was certainly bright, but the generral construction of the interior seemed to be cheap in nature. The outdoor appearance was very nice (except for those units currently under construction). The kitchen has several cupboards which contain inaccessible areas, requiring that you either lose that storage space or try to reach around at unbelievably awkward angles to retrieve things, so take a CLOSE look to make sure you?re comfortable with this before moving-in.

Another thing to look at is PARKING... Some buildings seem to have enough, but my side of the complex is jam packed by 7:30 pm every evening. Covered and reserved parking spaces were offered to me at an additional charge, but once again, these too are completely packed. The sound of neigbors is weird in that music and voices don?t seem to be a problem, but strange things like the water running through pipes and people stomping around on the tile upstairs can eventually wear one?s nerves thin. I requested a second-floor apartment expressly to avoid having to listen to stompy upstairs neighbors, but found that the buildings here have three floors.

All in all, if outward appearances are your main concern, then this still would be a recommended facility -- it?s in a great location, lots of people jogging and a few small parks to play sports, and of course, a beautiful view of either the lake in the front of the complex or the Golf Course behind it... But if you can, see if you can spend a night in your apartment before making the commitment and signing any contracts. It should go without saying, but READ YOUR LEASE as it is loaded with stiff fines and penalties. It?s very well written (from a legal standpoint), but might lead some to the conclusion that the term "luxury" used to describe this complex might better be used in describing the owners luxury of being able to sit back and have customers continue to line up at the door even when some are lost due to unsatisfactory service.

SUMMARY: Pluses - Beautiful, New Appliances, Hottest Hot Water from the Tap, Tons of power outlets.

Minuses - Cheap Construction Materials, Cramped Parking, Lots of Noise from Upstairs, Weird Window Location in Shower causes Mold.
