Condos.
Here's how I found out; I work at a leasing office and received a phone call from a man looking for an apartment. When I asked him his address, I recognized it as being here. The poor guy had moved down from NY only to find out that because this dump was going condo, they would not honor his lease. That was 7 weeks ago, and 3 weeks before they made the residents aware of "the plan."
For anyone out there who may be thinking of purchasing a condo here at the Avalon at Clearwater, you should be aware of a few things. Firstly, this whole complex was built on top of a lake. That would explain the vertical & horizontal cracks which they are busy spackling before they slap on a couple of coats of paint (gold, green, and lighter green) The banister and stairs are loose. The solution? A coat of paint. The apartments are infested with "Palmetto" bugs. There have never been gutters on the buildings, which would explain the water damage and mold. It's wood construction. If any of those 4 hurricanes last summer had come this way as predicted, we'd all be dead. The price being "offered" for a 2/2 with a balcony that overlooks your neighbors wide screen tv is $160,000.
The neighborhood is less than desirable, as is most of Clearwater, unless you can afford the beach.
This place is hell.

The Villas were built on the property that was previously occupied by the Sunshine Mall. When the mall was torn down, the Villas were immediately built. The Sunshine Mall was in existence for 20 years. I don't know of any lake being on that property unless if it was prior to the Sunshine Mall being built.

In 1970 J Byrum at the south end of the sunshine mall was built on top of a swamp next to the elementary school when I was in the 6th grade. TI lived near by and remmeber all the deep pipes they put in to drain it to an underground creek that came out under greenwood ave (now MLK Blvd.) The then Sunshine towers is also built on top of it.
