I lived at Bay Meadows for 2 years. Overall, the staff and neighbors were decent, the on-site maintenance (they may live off-site now) was generally responsive, and the location was perfect for my daily commute.

The complex was built around 1984 and many of the apartments show their age, but are decently maintained. The staff at the time were very courteous and usually responsive. Some of the apartments were upgraded with tile floors, new carpeting, blinds, and new faucets. The entire complex was repainted at the beginning of 2004. The pool and adjacent hot-tub overlook a small part of the wetlands and the view is beautiful. The gym was decent, but started to show signs of aging. The indoor racquetball court was nice. Parking was bad toward the back of the main complex, but decent in the front. The window and door insulation was pretty poor due to age, so the electric bills were a little more than you would expect.

At the time, the new rental and renewal discounts varied wildly, so you could expect anywhere from your first few months free to a lesser offer of $100 off the first few months. It all depended the current property management company at the time. Before leaving, it was necessary to go month-to-month for a few months while I closed on a new home. The property management company adjusted the rent for "market value" and it went up by about one third of the original agreement.

I did a pre-inspection and a final inspection. They provided a checklist, so I used it after I moved out all my belongings. During the pre-inspection, several items came up. The biggest was a window frame leak that went undetected for two years and ruined the bottom of my oak table. The mold under that part of the carpet was disgusting. I spent two days cleaning everything to ensure the apartment was spotless. There was a small piece of candle wax that I could not remove from the carpet and was noted in the final inspection, so they took approximately $30 off the security deposit. The rest was refunded by check within 60 days.

If you are considering a new rental, I would highly recommend reading some recent reviews and talking to the staff in person. Always take pictures before moving in and after moving out.

We here at Bay Meadows appreciate the feedback provided in all reviews. In response to this particular review, we would like to add that our fitness center has all been recently renovated and includes new cardio equipment and free weights. Also we???ve recently replaced our air conditioning systems as well as the kitchen appliances, utilizing more energy efficient technology. This is a large help to your electric bill. In addition we would be able to replace any weather stripping on the doors or caulk any windows if that was a concern in the apartment. What this reviewer did in having a pre-inspection as well as a final inspection performed on their apartment is a wonderful idea, and we strongly recommend everyone takes this approach. If given enough notice to set an appointment, a member of our management is more then willing to do these inspections with you. Finally, one thing this review did mention is that Bay Meadows offers free rent or gives concessions upfront. This is one thing we would like to point out that we do not offer, however we do offer competitive pricing on all of our apartment homes, which can be found on our website at www.baymeadowsapartmenthomes.com or by contacting our leasing office.

I lived at Bay Meadows in 2001 then had to leave the state so I moved out in 2008, I just moved back in and I have never had any problems with the complex or the people that work in the office. I find it funny that everyone posting on this site is unhappy and says all this bad stuff about the complex, people or company but if you read between the lines they have all done something wrong. Left apartments dirty, moved out but did not give proper notice. I love that with any company thee only people that say anything bad are the ones that can not have done anything wrong? I am very happy to call this my home, I enjoy the people in the office. People that are reading this site think about it when do you every post anything on the internet or send a nice letter about a staff member that did something nice. When was the last time you talked to someones manager because you had good service? Now the happy people do not post on the internet do they? Some do but most do not. Go to the complex and when you are looking arond stop and talk to us, the people that live at Bay Meadows, the ones of us that have moved out and returned. Or you can go by what other people say that could be nothing like you. Do you trust people that you do not even know? Good luck to you.
