Paper thin walls with loud plumbing!

The Breakers apts were decent when I moved in in early 2005. The apt itself was clean, nice paint, clean carpets, decent appliances. On first impression I liked it there.

Until my neighbor ran the shower and the plumbing was SO loud I had to switch my bedroom and livingroom so I could sleep in peace at night! The walls are so thin noise is a serious problem. I was on the bottom floor and this was only more true. You'll hear your neighbors above you walking, loud music, and every time they have sex.

Pests are also a bad problem at least on the ground floor. Do not leave your balcony sliding glass door open! Every time I did so a cockroach would find its way into the apt from the screened in porch! When I moved the largest cockroach I ever saw in my life was at the bottom of one of my boxes I kept in my porch storage closet. It was 2 inches long and hugely bloated and dying. Disgusting! I taped up the box and threw it out it was so nasty looking. Forget about pest control...they send a guy over who sprays what looks like water around your place. You're better off doing it yourself.

A neighbor of mine had their car broken into. Unfortunately the apartments right next door are filled with unsavory people who cross over late at night by jumping the short fence to break into cars. The "gate" is always broke and they will tell you up front that they are not responsible for any crime because it's not really a gated community.

The last 6 months I was there I noticed that tons of shady characters were moving in. The problem with the location is that it is right off of Mason Ave, only up a couple blocks. That road carves straight through the ghetto where all the poor people live in some of the worst neighborhoods in daytona beach. So what I suspect is these people try to move "up" out of the ghetto and into the apartments a few blocks up and in what are somewhat nicer areas. The problem with that is they bring their crime with them as well as their poor social skills that served them well in the ghetto. So basically the Breakers apts are becoming more ghetto like the neighboring apartments because the prices are so low for the area.

The positives' Well the location is very convenient. It's only barely a mile from the Volusia Mall and Int'l Speedway Blvd where lots of stores, restaurants, the daytona raceway, and highway access are. The hospital is only a few blocks away as well. The management while I was there was quite nice, a couple of the ladies there were also quite easy on the eyes. Thing is, their hands are tied because AIMCO doesn't empower them to do much to improve things...AIMCO is notoriously corporate and cares about nothing but collecting rent.

If you want to rent somewhere nice, go find an apt in the true gated upscale community of Pelican Bay on Beville Rd. THAT place is the place to live! You'll pay for it though.
