Nice apt and location, but office staff won't solve problems and are deceptive and misleading on issues. Seems like they will say anything to rent an apt. For example, they provide a written move in sheet saying "their helpful staff is there to make your move in easy as possible". Yet, they fail to tell people that the underground parking garage with elevator access will not accomodate any vehicle taller than an average pickup truck. When you pull up with a small moving van full of stuff, it is "suprise! we forgot to tell you that your van won't fit in the tiny garage, so you have to carry your sofa 50 feet uphill." If they go to so much trouble to type out a move in list, then why not disclose some very important information that has been a known problem, and let the residents decide if using a pickup truck or van would be easier. Then, if you don't want to carry your furniture uphill and ask to use the garage entrance, they say "the garage is reserved for paying people, if you want to use it it will cost you 30 dollars a month." This is a bad way to start off moving in a new apartment and frankly, I felt like they decieved me and ruined my move in, and then to add insult to injury tried to charge me for resoving this move in disaster. So much for a helpful staff at move in. So be advised: nothing taller than a pickup truck will fit in the garage with elevator access so use a truck or be prepared to carry items for a long distance uphill. Also, ask if you are allowed to use the garage elevator for your move in and how much time to you get to use it and does it cost you anything. I won't waste your time listing other examples of deception, but there are several. I wish they would get a new manager as I strongly dislike the one they have as of march 2009. So, I would say it's a good place to live, but get everything in writing with these people and leave no room for misunderstandings. Ask to see all lease and additional documents one month before moving in (when you pull up on move in day with all your stuff, they bring out all kinds of documents that you have to sign.)

so... you knew there was an underground garage and you didn't bother checking the clearances...
From: Anonymous Date: 03/30/2009
That hardly seems to be the point. Regardless as to whether the tennant checked the clearances his/herself, the staff should have addressed move-in procedure with the tennant. The specfics of the policy should be reviewed with all tennants to as to avoid this kind of problem. The manager should be responsible for alerting the tennant as to the regular procedure: where the moving van should unload, if the elevator be used temporarily without paying the $30/month fee. Moving is a hectic and frustrating process and it should be up to the staff to familiarize their new client. Since you replied so promptly to this post, I assume you are the aforementioned, strongly-disliked manager...

I'm pretty sure lotsa paperwork is standard everywhere?

I agree with the poster. 99.9% of underground garages have a height of atleast 10 feet. This garage was built in 1960 and for whatever reason, they made it less than 7 feet tall. I am serious...a pickup truck practically scrapes the air conditioning vents. I have heard that this has been a well documented problem for many years, yet they seem to leave it out of the detailed "move-in" instructions they give people. Furthermore, there is no sign on the garage enterance that says "Clearance 7ft". A reasonable person would expect to be able to drive a small u-haul truck into the garage and load their stuff onto the elevator. But not at this place. You have to carry it up a hill. Regarding the paperwork, yes, most places have you sign a lease. But this place pulls out 10 seperate sheets of paper with different rules and policies. If it is not a standard lease or in a standard lease, then people should be given the info before agreeing to move in, not when they have already moved and pulled up in a moving truck. And the noise here is annoying. The street traffic is noisy but they will try to tell you that it is cause "the apartment is empty, when you add some furniture it won't be so noisy." LOL If you get an apartment overlooking the pool, the automatic garage gates make this hideous awful "beeping" sound each time they open and close. Each time a car comes or goes, you will be woken up by a loud annoying beeping sound. And don't forget the barking dogs. But I have not seen much of the party noise or drug dealing as referred to in the other reviews. The laudnry parking is clearly marked as such, and the bottom parking lot is not under a bridge. I have not seen any homeless people there either.

I have seen the homeless under the bridge, and I have also heard my neighbors imitating Lil John and the East Side Boys nightly for the past 9 months. Actually I can't remember a time I haven't heard them. Another thing that is absolutely wonderful are the dirty looks the manager gives my girlfriend on a daily basis for no good reason at all. The leasing staff attends the pool everyday during the summer, yet I haven't ever noticed them attending to the south side apartments(the one mainly the maintenance staff lives in)for any reason other than to deliver eviction notices. The elevators are out of date, and though most of the people here are nice, there are some who don't know how to walk without stomping or running into a wall, which would be THE REASON MY DOG BARKS ALL OF THE TIME! Since moving in here, he had to be placed on sedative medications... and I had to be placed on xanax so that I could get some sleep and hopefully someday graduate college. I happen to be one of the people who live here that are actually trying, but I can't seem to say the same for any of the other students here. Also, the building is over run by a particular race,(one that I have no problem with), but a good 65-75% of these people are rude, take over the laundry area, and the elevators. If I forget my keys, they will also just stand in the lobby and stare at me through the window instead of letting me in. Yes, the noise from motorcycles and cars are also bad and parking is impossible! This place is a nightmare, the end.
