Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved in here in Oct. 2007 and signed a 7-month lease. I was brand new to the Miami area and had one day to find a place to live that was close to my new job. I chose The Palms of Doral because they offered a short lease and the apartments seemed clean, modern, and at a competitive rate with other similar apartments in the area. Here is my opinions:
Pros:
Clean, quiet, nice pool & hot tub (both always clean), nice landscaping, gated, plenty of parking, washer & dryer come w/the apartment, cute apartments, overall nice place to live.
Cons:
Management has been difficult to deal with, to say the least. When I filled out the apartment application, I indicated I had a cat. They did not say anything to me about a fee. On the day I pulled up in my moving truck, they said they "forgot" to tell me there's a $700 fee/deposit ($300 nonrefundable) that I HAVE to pay before I moved in, or they would not give me the keys. They completely had me by the balls since I was standing there with my moving truck. I soon found out from my neighbor they did the same thing to her too...conveniently "forgot" to mention it until moving day. Not a good way to start out. Also, they say they have a 24-hr. service turnaround time, but this is most definitely NOT the case. I usually have to ask for something to be fixed at least 3 times and it usually takes 2 - 3 weeks, and most of the time they act like I don't know what I'm talking about. At one point I had a pipe burst in between my walls and my apartment flooded somewhat and got moldy. They sent someone up twice and the maintenance guys said they didn't see anything wrong. So I took pictures of the water damage and showed them and then they finally believed me. They did a really shoddy job patching up the wall and replaced the damaged tiles in the kitchen with tiles that did not even match the other remaining original tiles. Looks really stupid. They also should have removed the carpet pad and replaced the carpeting, but they did not.
I saw one other person posted about teenagers hanging around the pool at night...yes, this is definitely true. On Fri. and Sat. nights there are usually a good 20 to 30 kids that have nothing better to do hanging around the pool doing drugs. This has never bothered me...in fact, I have gone down there to relax in the hot tub on weekends sometimes and the kids were always nice to me and didn't bother me at all. What else is a teenager doing to do in Doral on the weekend'''
The other major con is the workout room. It is a complete joke. They have bunch of broken and useless equipment in there. I thought I was going to use it, but I never do. And yes, like the other person said, the room is locked early quite a bit and the hours are something ridiculous like opening at 10am. The workout room is also used as a hangout place for the teenagers to rave in on the weekends at night too...because sometime the room is unlocked.
Conclusion:
Still I would say this place isn't so bad to the point where I wouldn't extend my lease. For the money and for the fact that they offer short leases, the place isn't that bad. Just beware of the witches in the leasing office!!!
