WORD TO THE WISE... BYPASS!

I am lucky, (or I should say, YOU are lucky) that I found this web site while attempting to look up management contact information for MacAlpine Place. It is 6:19 am on a Wednesday morning and for the past two hours, the people in the apartment above me have been playing hip hop at a volume reserved for pool parties during Spring Break in Panama City Beach. The problem is, the only number I have to call puts me in touch with a recording for emergency maintenance issues only. Also, unfortunately because of where MacAlpine is located in Dunedin, the main police response is via the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office which the last time I called and reported this problem, didn't show up until 4 hours later and the party was over making it look like I was prank calling them. Now, I don't mind people enjoying music, even all hours of the night, but when it is loud enough that I cannot sleep despite a large window fan running on high (for noise), and a pillow over my head, it is ridiculous.
The "tenants" that live above me are an interesting bunch to say the least. I say this because most days/nights there are 6-8 people staying in this 2 bedroom
2 bath unit, and they always seem to change every few days. There is one person who is there fairly consistently, but the rest seem to come and go and it's new people every few days, staying for just a few days to a week and then they're gone. This rotating, commune-style living seems like a youth hostel, as the people are always carrying overnight bags or backpacks and most seem to be younger, disheveled-looking types. Some of them stare at you when you are getting into your car and others will walk right up and one of them who was covered in tattoos walked right up and looking directly into the back of my car after I put some donation items into the hatch and went back inside for another load. He didn't even wait until I was out of sight. Definitely creepy people.
Someone posted earlier about drug rehab treatment units. This may be one of them. Read more here (and these are photos of some really NICELY FURNISHED MacAlpine Place Apartments on the web site): http://www.alternative2rehab.com/treatment.html. Other issues about McAlpine Place that you should know are that people leave their bags of garbage outside their doors in the common areas which is a clear violation of the rules and a huge safety hazard. The area that M.P. is located in is near a nature preserve and there is a lot of wildlife such as raccoons, rats, and other potentially Rabies carrying animals around. I have seen my neighbors garbage bags chewed open and strewn about already, and by what I don't know. It was definitely chew marks on the bag though.
Another thing I must ding this place on is that stop signs mean NOTHING. Beware if you are walking, running, riding a bike, roller blading or any other exercise. Even just walking across the parking lot to your car can get you killed by one of the muscle cars or bikers blowing a stop sign doing 40 mph! The loud Harley/Muscle car noise is something you better be able to tolerate too. And they don't seem to care what hour of the night it is when applying the throttle.
Lastly, and this one is important especially if you like hogh speed internet and good cable TV. MacAlpine Place has a contract with Knology Cable Communications of Atlanta, GA to be the sole cable TV provider choice on the property. Now, had I known this prior to moving in, I would not have done so just from the principle of being against monopolies, ESPECIALLY entertainment services. But sadly, after moving in, getting the full cable package complete with High-Definition TV, all the pay channels, and high speed internet (all costing over $120 per month), I am CONSTANTLY on the telephone with Knology about their internet service. The signal drops several times a day to the modem and auto-resets which is very frustrating, and the speeds are extremely slow all of the day long. I am talking upload speed of 184 kbps and download speeds of 1710 kbps. (Just checked). MacAlpine Place has a contract with Knology and they are getting kick backs. Sadly Bright House communications which has AWESOME broadband and cable TV is about a mile from here but they cannot install here. Additinally, you cannot mount satellite dishes here so that option is out as well. So if you're planning on working or schooling from home, forget it if you move here.
On the upside at MacAlpine Place, they keep the office/reception/clubhouse area very well maintained in the rare event you should you ever need to meet anyone there, and
you get a free bag of microwave popcorn for stopping by the office during leasing events, two if you refer someone.
Needless to say, I am grateful that I only have two more months left here. I will be out of here so fast they will not know what hit them.
