If I only knew before...

Apartments are small, walls paper thin, floor creaks and slants multiple different ways. Air conditioner is old hotel room style and only cools down front area nearest to unit. Can hear nearly everything neighbors do, say, are watching even. Management is nice so long as you don't need them to do anything for you. When you ask something of them it gets done, but in a easy-fix manner. The people moving in now only seem to get more and more of a lower class. I'm single and female and I'm afraid to go out at night. Even to walk to the mail box. A man was attacked by 2 pitbulls in the parking lot while taking out garbage and the management advised us it wasn't pitbulls, but was small dogs. Called authorities asking about it and was assured it was pitbulls. Then the next day new paperwork advising us where proper dog areas were. Coincidence'' Or guilty conscience... I can't wait until my lease is up. I would rather pay more for some where I'm not afraid to live rather than save money and live in this dump. When I first moved in to the apartment we had a different property manager (Debbie) as well as maintenance man, and she was very nice and helpful. Had any requests they were met in a timely manner. We are on an end apartment and didn't have a neighbor to the other side. Things were not so bad. I suggested to a friend that she should move in. She did. For 3 or 4 months. She had to move for other circumstances and had to terminate her lease. Debbie said the termination fee would be 1 extra months rent, very understandable. A few months later my friend received a letter from the owner of the complex, saying she owed some $1500 and the rent would continue to increase til either (a) the lease was up or (b) the apartment would be rented out to someone else. Be very careful to read your lease information and only sign to something you can be certain will be in your favor.
