To echo others concerns, I too thought the location of the garbage and laundry in the back of the complex was a bit scary. It is very dark back there. The garbage bin was almost always overflowing, and not just at times when people were moving in and out - all the time! The laundry does not have a coin machine, nor is it air conditioned. Hell, it doesn't even have a place to sit down. It's not safe enough to leave clothes in the washer or dryer with the laundry being so far away from the office. If you use that laundry, your only choice is to stand there and melt in the heat. As for maintenance, my air conditioner kept breaking and would leak water into my closet. I complained several times, but they would only patch it up. It leaked like that twice - the second time, it flooded my closet, ruined my dresser and lots of my clothes (mold). That time they fixed it promptly, but I suspect that was because of the gaping hole left in my ceiling where the water had dripped down. They never fixed that hole while I was still there. Another sad fact is the parking space wars that go on. My neighbor actually kicked over my motorcycle one day: although I parked in the spot directly opposite my front door, he felt that the space belonged to him (and he lived two doors down). Management was upset, but did nothing. As far as decor, the cupboards are fugly - mine were bright neon yellow.
Traffic was by far the worst problem I experienced at AW. Yes, there are alot of morons who play their bass levels very high despite the strict noise ordinances. But it gets to be very annoying when the traffic is backed up to the hospital during rush hour - you hear that same bass for 10 to 15 minutes as the person inches their way through the intersection at 34th. Worse, I could never manage to get in or out of my place during the peak traffic hours - there is no back entrance/exit.. just the one on Archer Rd. I found it very difficult to get into traffic (no one is nice enough around here to let you out) and if you have to get across all three lanes you are screwed. Ultimately I moved out because I was sick and tired of being late for my 5pm classes. Oh and the bus stop is across Archer Road - try crossing that traffic on foot in the rain!
