I spent quite a bit of time looking for a place in Gainesville, because 90% of the apartments here at student ghetto. I was pretty happy to find windmeadows...definately affordable, cheap utility bills, and really convenient to Butler Plaza (big shopping center) and grocery stores, etc. Management is a huge issue in Gainesville but the people here are really professional and generally helpful (with one or two leasing agent exceptions). Maintenance is rapid and they generally take the time to do things right.

My only complaints/recommendations about the place are the following:

1) get an upstairs unit. Floors are pretty thin it seems and I frequently am awoken by my upstairs neighbor.

2) there's alot of dogs...big dogs. Leash laws are pretty well followed but if you don't like the occasional barking it's not for you.

3) watering/irrigation is out of control. don't bother washing your car because the sprinklers water the pavement more than the grass. and it doesn't matter because the landscaping isn't that great anyways.

4) traffic on only roads out of the complex (Archer and 34th) is always bad except for weekend mornings. Expect a 20 minute, 10mph drive to main campus UF which is only 2-3 miles away, longer between 7:30-8:30am or 4:30-5:30pm.

Then again, since they're going condo like every other community in Gainesville, only people with deep pockets need to bother reading this. They're selling from the mid-150's.
