the reviews were misleading

My girlfriend and I moved into Windmeadows after reading nothing but great reviews about the place. Unfortunately, those reviews were outdated. The complex was in the process of changing management when we were signing our lease. From the beginning, we were being told different things at different times by the staff, but contented ourselves by thinking that was just a normal part of the process. We also cut them some slack because such a transition can be difficult. However, things have not gotten much better. They had months to iron out the kinks by the time we moved in, but still managed to "forget" to turn our apartment. As a result, the entire apartment wreaked of dog piss, especially the guest bedroom, and actually had dog crap ground into the carpet in the living room. In short, the place was disgusting. While they were semi-helpful in fixing the problem, we're still waiting for some things to be fixed a month after moving in that we were repeatedly assured would be fixed within a week. The best way to explain our experience with the staff here is that they seem over their heads with running this place. Our neighbors put it that the company that owns the complex now is much less personal and much more money-oriented than the previous owner. They tried to go condo up until the summer when they realized no one wanted to pay the outrageous amounts that were being asked. Because of their need to recoup costs that got sunk into the conversions, rents for the refurbished units are, in my opinion, unjustifiably high. Those who do not already live in a refurbished unit are going to be forced out at the end of their lease. If they want to resign, they will need to pay the higher amounts. Only the complex's location keeps the rents being asked from being absurd. Under-managed and over-priced, unless you absolutely need the location for school or work, or have more money or time than we do, find a better deal and fewer headaches elsewhere.
