Not as bad as people say...

Ok, so Windmeadows has been either highly praised or brutally critiqued on this site. So, my review has a little of both sides of the story. Let me fill you in on my experience. I moved here from Sun Harbor apts. in Gainesville, and let me say, it was a wonderful improvement. Yes, there are a few problems with wiring and fixtures because it is an old apartment complex and there are sometimes problems with pests, but overall, I love it here. It might be my bias since I moved away from many terrible apartment complexes in the past, but let me list the positives that I have noticed while living here. First off, (and most obviously) the location is superb. It is walking distance from Butler plaza stores and the conveniently placed number 1 bus stop is very nice when traveling to campus. There is ALWAYS parking and this is important in a town like Gainesville where parking is a gauntlet. Last thing you want is to come home and fight for parking there too. The laundry room is great with all new machines and it is air conditioned (of course, anyone who has ever done their laundry in a launder-mat knows how important that is). The pool is nice, clean, and it is usually not crowded. The gym has new machines and is also not crowded (but I wouldn t recommend the sauna, it doesn t steam and won t do anything that the Florida sun doesn t already do). There are other amenities like a dog park, a volleyball area, and a carwash port, but I don t use them and I can t give an accurate opinion. So whenever I have needed maintenance the staff has been courteous and prompt. I have heard others say otherwise but I have had only good experiences with maintenance. Living within the gates is good and bad. It does make you feel safer and it does control unwanted traffic at night, but one of the gates does not work right for guests and getting food delivered after six is a pain. Oh and there was one person who complained about the appliances being old. Well, they may not be brand new but everything in both my apartments worked well. I guess if you want pretty you can buy the appliances yourself. Overall, my experience has been positive, but everyone is different. All I can say is that (despite its faults) I love it here.
