Update 9/10/05:
I had been very impressed with Ocean Crest Club apartments, but after reading the reviews on this site I realized that my impression of the building wasn’t very accurate. I ended up moving in Jefferson Circle instead and it clearly was the right, if not expensive, choice. You can read my review of that building there
Oh yeah, for the 900000 time, I don’t work for Ocean Crest. I had visited the building, was very impressed with it, and didn’t see pimps, whores, trash, crack, or rapists in the hallways. I was under the impression that people were unfairly exaggerating on this site. However, I have personally met a few former Ocean Crest residents and they have told me that it was, in fact, very bad.
The building has, like everything else in the area, gone condo. Unless the management and residents have changed, I would recommend not moving here.

Re-Visit and Review. 3/07/2004
I visited this apartment again on 3/07/2004. These are my observations:
I gave my car to the Valets, and had no problem.
The lobby smells bad. Like old people. I noticed this a year ago too, so I guess that never changes.
The leasing staff seemed to be nice, and knew what they were doing.
The hallways were well lit and clean. No trash laying out in the middle of the walkway.
The views are beautiful.
The layout of the apartments seems ok. They dont give you fans nor the hook ups for fans. The washer and dryer are not in the rooms, but in a central laundry room.which sinks. Small kitchens. Nice big living room and bedrooms.
The fact that the AC is included in the rent is really nice.
The type of people at the pool and touring the apartment seemed a bit low class. Lots of non-English speakers. Lots of people with tattoos. Not particular classy looking.
Most of the residents I met were older. Around 40 or so. I did ask three people if they liked the building, and they all simply said Yes. The second person I asked said that she would defiantly move in again if she had to do everything over again.
I did ask if there as a lot of crime as other people have insisted. She mentioned to me a story about a Spiderman burglar, but that was it. I had already heard about that story from researching online. So basically, no drug dealers hanging out in the hallways.
For the money it seems like a very good deal.
I did view this apartment this week, as well as several others. I ended up signing a lease today with Jefferson at Young Circle. It is near the beach (about 5-10 minutes from Ocean Crest), has very nice amenities, and very nice rooms. Its right on the downtown circle in Hollywood. But the deciding factor for me was the people. They seemed to be around my age, 25, and also they seemed very upscale. This is very important to me, as I am moving out of my current place due to having to deal with a low class / criminal element.
This was the main reason I didn't pick Ocean Crest. Lots of older people. Lots of rough looking people, both as residents and people looking at apartments.
That might not be a fair thing to say, but thats the vibe I got. I must point out that I did not pick up on this a year ago when I first visited the property.
Now, one last thing. I have provided my e-mail address. If you truly doubt my sincerity about who I am, then I dont know what else to tell you. E-mail me and I'll show you my credentials as who I am and what I do (Commercial Insurance BTW). I have said this SEVERAL times...and if you still doubt me...well I only can call you a moron and move on.
As too why I have posted several times regarding this property'. I looked at Ocean Crest a year ago, and fell in love with it. I would have moved there if I had the money at the time. I had built the place up in my mind for the past year, and I am absolutely SHOCKED by the raving negative reviews on this site. This is the only reason I have posted several times. I can not believe that these reviews are truly legit. But thats my opinion.
If you are interested in this property, I suggest at least visiting a few times and talking to the residents. See what they say. The place IS a good deal for the money'but does have its catches, as I have pointed out.
Overall, one of the only complexes on the beach in FL that isnt condo. But from what I was told, this will be changing.
For a nicer, more upscale apartment on the beach, check out Sunrise Harbor. Its A LOT more money. But then again, you get what you pay for
