I have lived there since February of 2004. The manager Debra was very nice to me until recently. After breaking up with my boyfriend, I had to get a restraining order against him for domestic violence. I made her aware of this from day one. We lived together. She proceeded to rent him an apartment in the next building even after she knew of his violent behavior towards me. I explained that he would be served the very next day with a temporary restraining order. I begged her not to rent to him, but she said she would be sued if she didn't. This has been a problem for me and the management does not want to do anything. After pleading with her, she finally moved him to another apartment farthur away. But still within 500 feet. There was not an apartment in the whole complex that was over the 500 foot limit the State Attorneys office set for him to stay away from me. If I were a manager, I would have put this man off until the order was served, so no trouble would have happened. Needless to say, I will not be renewing my lease. I cannot afford to break my lease and move. Parking also is very limited here, and sometimes there is no place to park. The pool is never clean, and full of leaves.

From: Devra Prendergast, Manager. Dear Past Resident, I remember you well. It was hard to remain unbiased in a situation like yours, but professionalism dictates that I do. I think you feel like I was unsympathetic to your situation because I had to do what the law dictates. It was unfortunate that when you advised me that a court ordered restraining order was to be served the following day that the applicant was already approved. He had a different story from you, was not listed on your lease as liable, and qualified for his own apartment. I could not legally prevent him from moving in. I explained my situation to you at that point. I even spoke to the applicant after you advised me of the restraining order about to be issued.
It was fortunate that he liked the location of the apartment that was farthest from yours- which was well over 500 feet. The court did not over-rule his subsequent move-in. I remained neutral and professional throughout the entire circumstance. I don't feel it is fair to say I was only nice to you before your situation arose.
It is unfortunate that our pool is surrounded by beautiful trees that drop leaves even in the summer months. Our pool is cleaned every morning, as well as skimmed throughout the day. Many of our residents skim the pool themselves before they take a swim. It is a nice gesture. We have 102 leased apartments and 191 parking spaces. I am sorry that you experienced a parking problem during your reidency. I sincerely hope that you are well and happy in your new home.
