They will get you in with a great rent, a low deposit (mine was only $49) and decent sized apartments. Seems like a good deal until you have your first major maintenance issue.

They left a huge hole in my ceiling (open, they didn't even bother to patch it up temporarily so I was looking at scary, webby rafters) for two weeks. I had to go into the office a pitch a fit to get a patch on it until they could get around to hiring someone who actually knows what they were doing to fix it.

They don't spray the property for bugs on a regular basis. My building was infested with roaches. Yuck!

When your lease is up, they drop the bomb. I was never late on my rent, yet still I got hit with a whopping $150 rent increase after only one year.

When I moved out, I gave proper notice and everything was paid up. Almost two months later I got a bill in the mail. No itemized list, no explanation, nothing. Just a random bill for almost $400. Called Equity repeatedly with no response. FIVE months later after several letters and calls, I finally got someone to send me an explanation of the charge. New carpet' The carpet should have been replaced before I even moved in. SCAM!

They abandoned Florida State law (when deducting from a deposit or charging a tenant, a landlord must provide an itemized list within 30 days of moving). But this monster of a company could care less about following a law. My only resort now is having to take them to court.

BOO Bermuda Cove and Equity. Unethical.

Never rent from Equity...I went through the exact same thing at one of their other complexes. I fought with them for almost a year and finally settled the initial $600 bill down to $200.
