Would not move here

My fiance and I were moved to Jacksonville for work by our agency and basically had one day to find a place to live. Not knowing anything about the city, we decided upon Charter Landing because it was one of the few places that would rent to tenants with a large dog. Plus, we liked the view of the river and the grounds had a lot of grassy areas for dog walking, with doggie clean-up stations provided. However, our opinion of the place drastically changed after we moved in. Several people have been robbed at GUNPOINT in the parking lot in the few months we have lived here. Additionally, there have been multiple break-ins to apartments where people have drilled out the locks and gained entry - including two in the building we live in. All of this information, and more, is on file at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. I have seen all of the police reports. There has also been a shooting during broad daylight at the apartment complex directly next door, and another shooting during daylight hours at the golf course at the end of the street. In addition to safety issues, the apartment itself is in awful condition. The air conditioning unit works so poorly we find it unbearable to sit in the living room because no air circulates into the room. Paint is literally chipping off the walls. And I would be shocked if the place passed a mold inspection. We had water damage to the walls from Tropical Storm Fay where the water poured in though the CLOSED windows. All they did was paint over the damage. I am sure this has happened plenty of times in the past, and I cringe thinking about what is growing in the walls from previous water damage. Although the staff is friendly, they seem to be disorganized. We have asked them numerous times to please let us know when they will be entering our apartment so that we can make arrangments for our dog, and they still try to enter without notifying us. They have even set off our alarm system because they did not notify us of entry. They have tried to enter two additional times without notification since setting off the alarm. I don't understand why they cannot look in our file, see that we have a dog and an alarm, and notify us before entry. The only positive note is that they did send maintenance out on a Sunday afternoon in July to fix our AC, which was blowing out hot air. If I were you, I would reconsider before living here. Fortunately we only signed a 7 month lease and have about 1 month to go.
